Locanda Barberini @ via di San Basilio, Rome

Antonio, the sweetest guy at the concierge of Hotel Dharma let us into his favourite hangout in Rome and we are really grateful for that. We asked for recommendations and he started gesticulating excitedly about this little gem, flipping through the photos on Tripadvisor and his eyes sparkled - that's how we got excited about this meal.

Warm pita bread - a doughy kind of happiness when eaten fresh from the oven.

He cautioned against drinking too much of their house wines as they were rather potent but we had them anyway. Really good homemade wines, if I may add.

Spaghetonni Alla Carbonara (13 EUR)
Thicker spaghetti with a creamy sauce made of whipped egg, bacon, roman peccorino cheese

I've never encountered thicker spaghetti and then I wonder why is this not as world famous as spaghetti is - the chewiness is unforgettable almost as if unlike the last bite

Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce and Basil (10 EUR)

A simple pasta dish nailing it all - tangy sauce and chewy pasta.

The same with pecorina cheese - lipsmacking awesome!

Spaghettone Vongole E Bottarga (16 EUR)
Carpet shell clams and fish roe

Sweet fresh clams made this out of this world simple and delicious. The broth was too tasty to stop at one mouthful.

Straccetti Con Rughetta E Pachino (16 EUR)
Strips of beef rump, rocket leaves, pachino tomatoes

Tenderness in every bite and a lovely contrast with their tart tomatoes.

We ate so much, I wonder where did the tenacity for pasta come from. A lovely evening to boot and definitely a memorable night in Rome.
