Platters Revisited @ Club Street

Special thanks to Jean for the invite!

Opening this new four month stint at Platters is Chef Jeremy Nguee from Preparazzi. Instead of the gourmet meals that he is used to serving up, he is showcasing his version of a sin city - all things fried and decadent.

frogs legs and soft shell crab

Thunder Thighs and Crackpot Rice ($68)
French frog legs, soft shell crabs, crab roe rice, butter and bacon, tobiko and hollandaise

Also known as The Siao Seafood Starter, it is attention grabbing for its platter of fried frog's legs which coincidentally or not, taste like fried chicken and portions are surprisingly not puny - The french seem to love them juicy and plump.

roe rice

The indulgent pot of crab roe rice could send me on an instant road to food coma, every bite was laced with crab roe - enough to send my cholesterol level sky rocketing and then I hear that frog's legs are fried in fat. Please avoid all doctor's visits the following day in order not to skew the readings unnecessarily.

Top marks for comfort food and possibly any doctor's worse enemy.

truffle chicken

The Maniac Meat Main Course ($88)
Grilled angus sirloin, truffle roast spring chicken, foie gras terrine, buah keluak butter, maple candied bacon, fat potatoes, grape jelly, charcoal crumb

beef

"Never Die Before" is a carnivorous platter, with sirloin taking the stage with the lovely sear, pinkness and of course succulence in every bite. Buah Keluak butter however, was the most painstaking butter dish I've ever encountered. Buah keluak spooned out for blending before being carefully spooned back into the nut. The truffle roast spring chicken is purportedly Chef Jeremy's family favourite and I can see why -  tasty tender chicken rubbed with truffle.

brittle

Coffee Caramel Delight ($16)
Caramel fondant, coffee jelly, vanilla icecream, chili chocolate crumb, peanut brittle

FatDieYou #1, loosely translated from Chinese, while all desserts are fattening, Chef Jeremy brings the man out in this dessert with clever usage of chilli, chocolate, peanut and coffee.

caramel cake

I'm not a fan of his caramel fondant cake, but the peanut brittle and coffee jelly were outstanding.

financiers

My Pastry Hero ($16)
Rose meringue, rose espuma, lychee jelly, raspberry sorbet

FatDieYou#2 is a more feminine number with mainly pink hues and the love goes out to lychee jelly.

Prices quoted are for full platters for the savoury, the sweet platters only come in one size. I enjoyed this visit best of all three that I had and perhaps Chef's Jeremy's flavouring resonated better with me.

wine

Swigs of wine to enjoy the rest of the night, they offer a decent selection of wines too.

This menu is on till February so make haste!
