Redhill Food Center joins the list of hawker centers that is opened till late, to accommodate the dinner crowd at least.

138 Satay
BBQ Stingray ($8)
The spicy paste was used to mask the fishyness of the stingray, not a fan of it.

I wonder why sambal kangkong takes a nosedive at zichar stalls or they take it as a liberty to serve up less than acceptable vegetable dishes - ordinary as can be without any punch. It does not help I actually forgot which stall it is but it is a few doors away from the famous fried beehoon.
Fei Zai Grilled Meats
Roast Duck ($6)
Specializing in roast meats, the roast duck was decently tender.
Rong Xing Noodles Xiao Long Bao
Xiao Long Bao ($5.50)
As usual, I had to order it. Wonderful handiwork by the chef and once again proves my point that hawker center stalls like these do very wicked dumplings. No daintily dressed lady boss like Alexandra Food Village sports but it is a three man swift show. If I had the space, definitely more on the la mian and spicy dumplings!
焱 Chicken Wings and Fried Bee Hoon
Beehoon ($0.60)
Chicken Wings ($1.20)
Ngoh Hiang ($1)
This stall has to take the cake for longest waiting time. Infact, it was one of the two stalls with the longer queues and never once stopped for a breather. I waited for at least 30 minutes for what would otherwise be a regular hawker center breakfast - sounds like all day breakfast except that they only start business at 3pm daily except Mondays.
What is the big deal about fried beehoon? To date, there has not been a single plate that is worth waking up for and usually ends up too salty or I order it mainly for the ingredients that go with it. Makansutra made a big deal of it, so did the ten other people in line with me - people were packing so many packets I feared my beehoon selling out before my very eyes.
Just the right tendency of noodle and seasoning, it was just a beehoon revelation. Chicken wings is definitely the star, juicy and tender with an irresistible fried skin. I would trade my IKEA chicken wing fanaticism for this. Comes with a delicious special chilli sauce recipe too, two thumbs up!
Word has it that they have not raised prices in a decade, I wonder who is fibbing when it comes to inflation in food prices.
And the food review ends.
What made the trip exciting was the unfolding of a Ch 8 drama before our very eyes - a drunk woman and embarrassed husband creating a nuisance of themselves in broad public view that involved swearing in hokkien, smashing of beer bottles and a hilarious noseyparkers getting involved. The police were not involved this time but it seems that this episode repeats itself every other week, much to the chagrin of the stall owners.
So then, want a bit of drama with amazing beehoon? Head down to Redhill!
