Special thanks to Jayne for the invite, Frederick for the company and the warm team from Grand Park City Hall!
Beer Tavern opened its doors at Grand Park City Hall late August and they threw a bash. They officially open today!
Opening their doors wide open to their new addition - Beer Tavern. An open concept- open air bar for diners and drinkers to grab a beer and unwind in the gardens.
Easy to spot bar counter!
There were other beers on display that night too - Kilkenny anyone?
Or an Erdinger?
The latest to redefine beer, lychee beer hailing from Taiwan! This sounds like a Miss Congeniality Contest already but it was a clear crowd puller with throngs of ladies grabbing a can.
Mango, Lychee and Grape all lined up.
My new BFF - makes beer so ladylike and easy to guzzle without a bubbles and froth. Almost like juice except it is pumped with alcohol. Cider and lychee beer are the two fridge fillers moving forward.
Put free food and freeflow drinks, it is a hoolabaloo of a party. Registered or not, everyone was invited to this madhatter's party. Someone even mistook me for the official photographer and insisted I snapped pictures of him beaming with a glass of beer.
A wonderful culinary lineup was provided for the night - beef pairing with food! All were live stations but the one that garnered most interest was the Taiwan stop.
Traditional Pork Belly Bun - Gua Bao
Khong Bak Pau made on the spot. Close to a frenzied wait when the couple of people before me wiped out their supplies of pau and the rest of us stood in line waiting for close to eternity for the frozen buns to be steamed hot.
In its full fatty glory, while it was not THE khong bak pau of the century, it provided a nice twist to the buffet line up. Paired with lychee beer, happiness just got better.
Crispy Fried Taiwanese Chicken with Onion and Sesame
Another instant hit were bags of these fried chicken bites. Ordinary at best.
There was a complete buffet stand which could not be classified under any cuisine so then, tapas if I may add.
Teriyaki chicken skewers.
A cross between fishcake and tofu.
Oden probably brought the most smiles for me, certainly brought back memories in Japan for me. I never quite got why sake goes well with oden but it's definitely a break away from all things greasy and dried!
These were the pairings for irish stout, a more robust and full bodied stew!
Classic Lamb Stew and Stout and Potato Foam served with Baguette
While it could have wowed on naming, this was a thick stew with more root vegetables than meat.
Mini Steak and Guinness Pie
How about some pies that everyone wanted a bite of. Nothing to rave about but these are a good find at the tapas table.
Chang Beer Battered Prawn with Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce
Fried prawn fritters with thai chilli sauce - it could be the cute presentation but I wolfed down four cones.
Pan Fried Thai Shrimp Dumpling with Peanut Lime Dipping Sauce
Panfried gyozas that were juicy and meaty, delicious much!
Breaded mushrooms anyone?
The self help table with pretty much has all things fried.
Meatballs, mushrooms and pizza pretty much filled us up.
Decent bar food.
Desserts were making their rounds in man-held carts. I had my go at both and missed out on the popsicles! Neither were that memorable - desserts in jars and shooters somehow do not impress much.
It was a happening event, lots to eat, drink and mingle. I'm not sure if the food served up are all available at the tavern but I'm looking forward to unwinding there someday!
