Food options in Changi Village are plentiful and in fact I was spoilt for choice. I was probably introduced to pau even before bread hence a soft spot for it.
The humble store.
Hardly do I stop for a dimsum takeaway, however for Johor Bahru Tim Sum, I did for molten custard pau. The most surprising thing then is, their signature is the Ye Zi Mei Bun - named after bombshell Amy Yip. The correlation is straight in my face, no fuss and self explanatory.
Molten Custard Pau ($1.20)
Slightly smaller than my fist, this fluffy pau unveiled a greasy filling of salted egg yolk. Yet a slurp or two later, the savouriness of this rich filling was pure bliss. While some may find the bun thickness too much but I thought it just right to mop up the molten lava.
Happiness.
Char Siew Pau ($0.80)
Larger than the usual portions, this meaty delight hard not to love. No fillers but filled with meaty bits, char siew pau is put into a different perspective. Maybe the chef is from Hongkong but I am looking at this whole dimsum craze differently.
Pau specialists, I call them after attempting just two of their offerings. Raring to return to try out the bombshell amongst other things. I suppose they fall in the category of Jack of one trade and master of it. Expect no dumplings or fritters but just a humble steamed bun with fillings.
I love underdogs and their six outlets are definitely proof that their existence is validated.

this is one of my favourite dim sum places to go for their char siew paus.

@Xin Li: *high five* Very surprise find and YES please try their salted egg yolk paus - just disregard the layer of oil or slurp it down like I did and end up belly-very-happy. :)
