Sun Moon could have been hiding under the radar of
Sushi Tei for quite a while now, so much so the last visit was actually
more than 4 years ago and all I can ever remember about this place is
their tofu cheesecakes served in a bird cage.
Until they promoted their Kyushu cuisine did the interest get piqued a
little. I have not been to their Chijmes outlet before so it was a
pleasant surprise discovering it on the second floor of the building.
Toothpicks always so handy after every meal.
Love their thick napkins!
Mozzarella and Bacon Caesar ($12)
Trust the companion to order a western dish in a
Japanese place but it was a pleasant surprise! I particularly adore
Japanese salad dressings because they are flavourful and less sinful
than the regular heavy weights of thousand island
or blue cheese dressing. The fatty bacon slices and mild tasting
mozzarella provided a beautiful contrast.
Miso Soup ($6)
This came with fish maw and fishballs, hearty miso soup indeed!
Goma Hachi ($17.80)
Goma Salmon ($15.80)
Both had a generous portion of salmon and yellow
tail albeit the thin slices. While I fancied the plating, I did not
adore the poached egg dressing very much – way too sweet to complement
the lemon drizzled raw fish or wasabi. The egg had
a lovely silken texture to it, delicious!
Seafood Spicy Cream ($16)
Spicy is what Japanese cuisine fails to capture
mainly because we are exposed to spicier cuisines. I liked the generous
scallop, enoki mushrooms and salmon though. Not forgetting the crunchy garlic toasts!
Kurobuta Tonkatsu ($22)
Kurobuta cut failed the dish mainly because it was
short of tender and melt in my mouth, rather there were parts too chewy
to digest but the breaded crumbs were crazy delish.
Tofu Cheesecake ($6)
No bird cage rara and I suppose that did knock off a
few brownie points from this signature. Light tofu cheesecake,
signature of Japanese desserts. Still the same as I remember it – the
tofu cheesecake layer separates itself from the biscuit
base too easily.
Sun Moon surprised with their Kyushu menu, more so
with their quality of food in general. Definitely will be back given
that most of their frienemies have either shut their doors or standard
has taken a huge nosedive. Service is attentive
and very warm, a plus point too!
