I’m
into minority cuisine of late – perhaps a trail soon! My previous
Filipino maids hardly introduced their cuisine to me apart from Leche
Flan but I was piqued enough to want to try Kabayan at Lucky Plaza after
Straits Time’s featured
their dessert years back. The place works like an eatery and is
entirely self service – Filipino tze char I’d call this.
Omelette with brinjal
Huge portion of omelette and what tasted like brinjal but a humongous brinjal. Raw and undercooked at some parts though.
Inihaw na Liempo
Grilled pork belly that really tasted like charsiew! Loved it!
Lechon
Cnngo claims that “The lechon is the most invited
party guest in the Philippines. The entire pig is spit-roasted over
coals, with the crisp, golden-brown skin served with liver sauce, the
most coveted part.” Sounds like babi guiling in
bali, nonetheless, the roast pork was decent though not piping hot.
Would definitely give siew yoke a run for its money!
Kare-kare
Oxtail stew served with bagoong (shrimp paste) that
was pretty tasty. Their shrimp paste is a more savoury version of
chinchalok that is hugely acquired for me.
Mixed vegetables
I reckon mixed vegetables taste the same everywhere.
One of the numerous dips they have.
They do have dishes cooked on the spot as well. Hugely supported by the Filipino community and I guess this is as authentic as it gets? Food is reasonably priced too!
