Au Chocolat @ Marina Bay Sands

au chocolat

Au Chocolat is the second chocolate themed place to open at Marina Bay Sands and this comes with both a café and confectionery cum candy store with all sorts of memorabilia that one would associate to Disneyland or Universal studio merchandise.

candy stands

Pens, tees and stuffed toys form part of the repertoire. Their menu is mainly chocolate focused, from chocolate drinks to chocolate balsamic sauce.

Cute napkins.

frozen chocolate

Au Chocolat frozen hot chocolate  ($12)

There is a hot and cold version to this. Having this served in a large glass and topped with whipped cream made it more novel because of the portions than taste. The icy shards made this a tad amateur.

peanut butter milkshake

Peanut Butter Milkshake ($10)

I found this too rich but for those who live, breathe and dream peanut butter…this is quite the dream come true.

Have it take away and it costs $8.

samples

We had to order two beverages if we wanted to have their counter desserts at the café. Weird policy but it beats standing at their cocktail tables. They were generous about their dessert samples which gave us an idea how they tasted before ordering.

pancakes

Hearty Au Chocolat pancakes ($20)
Layer of stacked fluffy pancakes stuffed with crispy bacon, sliced ham served with tater tots, scrambled eggs

Three pancakes adequately thick and fluffy. It could pass off as Mcdonalds’ with bite. It is possibly savoury pancakes that gets me on the fence. I dipped mine into the milkshake and it tasted not too bad. Bacon was too crispy and sliced ham thankfully not fatty. The scrambled eggs was decently milky. The side of chilli and ketchup made this decent.

chocolate balsamic

The chocolate balsamic bore hints of cocoa but that was it.

apple cheesecake

Apple Pie Cheesecake ($8)

A really odd combination in one – especially when I love both desserts on their own. Artificially too sweet, the texture of cheesecake was odd too – hardly fluffy nor moist, it was as if too much shortening or butter was mixed in. The apple chunks were hardly sweet too.

Chocolate ($9)

layers

I’d have seen something similar at Antoinette and Canele. Three layers of mousse, praline and cake coated with chocolate.

Pricey mediocre affair to sum it up.
