Joo Chiat Prawn Mee @ Carpmael Road

indian stall

The Beach Road Prawn Mee has been sporting a permanent queue for a long enough time for the prawn mee fans at home to seek other alternatives within the vicinity. Starts bright and early at 6am, the mee gets sold out by 330pm daily. Whilst waiting for my order to arrive, it was fabulous for people watching – observing how hungry men tuck into it without inhabitation as beads of sweat trickle down their foreheads and possibly into the tasty broth but they continue chugging through their meal in satisfaction.

Prawn Mee Dry

Flavours so strong and rich that I am completely sold on prawn mee henceforth. I am hardly a prawn mee person because the taste is usually muted with the myriad of flavours fighting for attention. The broth is also stronger in taste.

prawn mee

Ask for spicy and I promise you heaven on earth with this. Prawns were incredibly fresh too and best of all, for $3.50 I get a reasonable number of prawns to go!

soup

Prawn Mee Wet

This was less flavourful though still delicious.

I say, watch out Beach Road…this has a following so strong that the policemen cannot stop. Illegal parking along the lanes and the hungry folk risk getting fines just for this.

Hunger games continue next stall!

nasi briyani

Also famous in the coffeeshop is the briyani. There are various briyani sets for selection and we chose Chicken. Grainy rice meets tender chicken drumstick. I saw this is decent food but the prawn mee takes the throne for tops.

There is a fishball soup stall too but that was hardly interesting.
