SIN - HK: Cathay Pacific

Hopped onto Cathay for the annual pilgrimage to Hongkong, no surprises for my choice of airline though logically the budget airlines would have offered a better deal. Expectedly, the load was full given that it was a long weekend.

I had breakfast on the way there and dinner on the flight back. Selection of entertainment is always lacking on short haul flights.
A choice between omelette or congee, the western side of me takes over.

Cheese omelette was a bouncy slab with traces of cheese drizzled on top.

I’m no omelette person and did not become a convert either. Infact, the breakfast tray looked too yellow – omelette, soggy hashbrown, salty slice of bacon and over grilled tomato. The bacon was thankfully lean! Tired looking fruit platter but it was better than the breakfast proper! Meiji yogurt to round it up – too watery and sweet methinks. The lack of QC makes it annoying sometimes. I made do with a dry yet still palatable raisin Danish.

Nuts for a snack and I am a mega huge fan of their non greasy nuts!

Warm bread roll with butter always sets the expectation for a hearty meal.

For dinner, the choices were more clearcut for me – tomato pasta or chicken with rice.

In its full glory.

sweet sout chicken

Sweet and sour chicken with egg rice. Tender chicken chunks with sweet and sour sauce – perfect tze char material and definitely one that is reminiscent of Hongkong. Vanilla icecream from Haagan Daczs was another that fell prey to lack of QC and was too sweet.

As much as I am a huge fan of airline food, I’ve come to accept that for short haul flights, food is acceptable at best. Once again loved the landing by the Cathay pilots – at least it does not feel like they are crashing the plane like most pilots do!
