boathouse

Boathouse for a super belated birthday lunch for a dear girlfriend! I’ve walked past Boathouse tons of times and even dreamt of brunch there but never quite got down to materializing it. Now then I know that Julian Bompard is also housed in the same building, that was a surprise find!

butter

bread

Complimentary slice of raisin walnut bread served up with butter that had water droplets on it – a lapse in service? The slice (note no refills nor offers) was a tad too hard and crusty.

salmon

Home-Cured Salmon
Horseradish cucumber emulsion with petit aromatic salad

Salmon done two ways – loved the soil-like marinate that gave this dish an added flavour, savoury with a mild punch. I never quite thought I could take in that portion of cured salmon in such thickness at a go – delicious!

foie gras

Landes Chicken Roulade
Ballotine stuff Foie Gras with truffle vinaigrette & pickled roots (Supplement 5)

Pretty like a garden, the foie gras was woven so intricately into the dish it was barely seen. Nonetheless it was wiped clean so methinks it must have been phenomenal.

beef

Roasted Ribeye
Glaze celeriac, potato chausson & roasting jus

The first thing that caught the eye was actually the thinly sliced homemade potato chips placed around the dish. Roasted ribeye done medium and kudos to the chef – perfect sear and crimson red.

lovely pink

Loved the juices-a-flowing and most importantly the succulent slices that I relished. Truffle was mild but then again, a highlight of the dish that did justice to the cow. Moo-rific!

duck

Challans Duck Breast
Wilted spinach, shaving of beetroot, juniper berries aigre-douce (Supplement 8)

In comparison, this was tough and a tad dry despite the prettier and gardeny outlook.

dessert spoons

chocolate mousse

Chocolate Mountain
Cassis rock & seasonal berries

Deconstructed if I may classify this chocolate mousse dessert with a clever inclusion of popping candy and cassis rock. Literally a rock hard chunk of cassis jam that toned down the sweetness of the chocolate mousse mountain. Surprisingly the best of the lot!

calamansi

Calamansi Chiboust
Hazelnut Biscuit, strawberry consommé & strawberry compote

Creamy and zesty calamansi dessert though this was more of a lemon-lime one than calamansi which I was half expecting a  tangier punch. Refreshing strawberry compote to go with it, overall pleasantly pleasing.

icecreams x sorbets

Seasonal Trio
Selection of sorbet & ice cream

White chocolate, cherry berry, honeydew were the seasonal specials.  I usually lean towards white chocolate and so did I this time though the rest found it too sweet. I thought honeydew was unique but it melted into nothingness quite quickly without holding onto the flavour very well.

Includes choice of Illy Coffee or Gryphon Tea to end off the meal, I was wishing very hard for petit fours which did not come. Nonetheless a set lunch that was value-for-money! 3 course set lunch at $32++ is a steal, given how most establishments have taken the liberty to increase prices. Service is attentive and thoughtful, brownie points for their offers for phototaking assistance. While I always thought great of the view from Boathouse, it truly isn’t much – well Esplanade from afar if anything. Tables of two are easier for a cosy view but beyond that, it’s just walls and ornaments.
