Food For Thought @ Botanic Gardens

entrance

I was not aware of FFT's closure of its North Bridge Road outlet and the Botanic Gardens outlet was in replacement. Located right smack of the entrance is pure strategic and great for those heading for a morning walk. Opening at 730am is happiness for early risers like myself - no doubt weekends are lazy affairs but brunch at 10am or even 11am is a torture for me!

bar counter

A bar counter full of desserts...swoons!

wall of murals

The wall that makes so much sense.

counter

Ikea much?

sauces

Very much modeled after Ikea's cafe - without the self service, the place is casual and full of characteristic corners. I found my attention drawn to walls and corners whilst waiting to be fed.

plants

Cool concept of incorporating plants with tables.

corner

Another kitschy corner.

menu

Universal clipboard menu across both outlets.

laksa

Special of the Week ($5)
Laksa

I was pleasantly surprised to find a local delights section in the menu - coming from a place that established itself for pulled pork sandwiches, smoked duck pizzas and red velvet cake...this had to be a turning point.

I say please skip it. The gravy is confusing, curry chicken thick gravy with laksa noodles and chicken shreds. Belachan would have been ideal yet this was a poor rendition.

cranberry scone

Cranberry Scone ($3)

Served with Fresh Cream, Homemade Purple Dragon Fruit Jam

Picked from a jar and reheated, "freshly baked" certainly does not apply. Dry like a cookie that even fresh cream could not salvage. Purple Dragon Fruit Jam had an interesting starchiness to it - the way it slides off the knife as I tried to slap onto the scone required much effort. Not a fan of this creative one.

big breakfast

Brunch ($8)
Pomme Noisettes (Hash Browns), Scrambled Eggs with Cream, Chunky Sausage

Pick from a list of items to form your desired plate of brunch. These hash brown balls were ultra cute to eat and coming from a non-hashbrown fan, I liked them enough! Scrambled eggs were moderate and kudos goes to chunky sausage - delicious much! No chipolata horrors, neither were they Pan Pacific awesome but good enough.

granola pancakes

Duo of Pancakes ($10)
Granola, Served with Fresh Cream and Gula Melaka Syrup

Every visit to FFT is not complete without their famous pancakes. These were speckled with rolled oats and granola and drizzled with gula melaka. A tad too cloyingly sweet. Somehow it lacked the heartiness that my favourite banana walnut displayed.

brownie espresso cup

Brownie and Marshmallow Cup with a shot of Espresso ($7)

It has to be the melted marshmellows that made this a deal. Loved the sticky melted marshmellows and soft brownies.

dippin espresso

The espresso was watered down yet overall a winner.

banana bread

Warm Banana Cake ($2)

Over the top with artificial banana seasoning, this dry one failed to win a vote across the table. Not a fan.

tea

Coffee and Tea ($1 each)

At a dollar top up for our brunch items, this was fairly priced.Yet this also means quality of beverages are instant fixes.

Brunch at FFT was pleasant yet not memorable enough for a quick revisit so soon. Sold on location, not yet on food.

  1. Am eating here far too often for my liking haha. But like you, the only thing I like is the "brunch" - I eat the same combi as you too lol.
