Melange Cafe @ Zhongshan Rd

melange cafe

Melange Cafe was highly recommended by 食尚玩家 and their must-eat waffles are described as waffles that even celebrities would wait 2 hours for! Even blogs raved about them so I had to squeeze it in, at the expense of a two hour wait. It is a stone's throw away from Zhong Shan Station. Even at an early 9am, the cafe was bustling with people who were there for their breakfast menu.

door way

Melange Cafe!

entrance

Feeling all festive.

notice

A reminder on the minimum beverage expenditure of NTD 100.

waiting check

Take a queue number for waffles as non-breakfast items get served only after 930am and it was at a separate cafe a couple of doors away! Thankfully no 2 hour wait was required!

spy those pringles

Jars and bottles of ingredients.

interior

Liked the cosy ambience the cafe exuded.

menus

Newspaper-like menus, so very Skinny Pizza.

sugar

Different types of sugar to flavour the drinks.

green tea latte

Hot Green Tea Au Lait (NTD 120)

Rich in green tea, the mellow creamy undertones of this made it one of my favourite green tea drinks around. Surprisingly good warm beverage!

passionfruit

Passionfruit Lemon Juice (NTD 130)

I realise how much of a non-passionfruit fan I am, did not like the seeds nor the tingly sensation that the drink evokes.

fruit tea

Iceblended Fruit Tea (NTD 160)

I would consider this a summer drink with all the tropical fruits from limes to apples and pineapples soaking in one tea drink. Best of all, there was an unmistaken fragrance too!

iced coffee

Iced Coffee (NTD 120)

Seriously good coffee too!

quiche

Ham and Vegetable Quiche (NTD 130)

Sweet potatoes formed the vegetable component for this quiche, while the buttery crust was evident I thought it lacked bite and flavour.

club sandwich

Club Sandwich (NTD 140)

I am usually wary of club sandwiches or triple deck sandwiches that come with off the can ham. Not to say the quality of ham was subpar but it was not that great either. Loved the combination of salad and omelette as well as teriyaki chicken. The amusing bit of it is, this came with exactly four pringles.

strawberry waffles

Strawberry Waffles (NTD 150)

The star of the meal and very rightfully so! Unlike any other waffle eaten, this packs a lot more bite...almost cake-like and dense! This ain't no belgian waffle but has taken waffles to an entirely new dimension. Paired with juicy strawberries and strawberry icecream with custard...this is one mighty set of waffles worth getting out of bed for!

vanilla macaron

Hardly resistible vanilla macaron (NTD 50) that was served in a champagne glass. Too crumbly and was filled just with buttercream. Unimpressed.

receipt

The breakdown of the bill.

xmas menu

Tea time specials!

I am usually a stickler when it comes to eating western breakfasts in Asian countries. Would prefer to head for their soyabean curd or doughsticks in this case. It was one truly memorable and hearty breakfast! Head straight for the waffles to get the maximum experience. If I can, if there will be a second visit...waffles only!
