永和豆漿大王 @ Fuxing South Rd

spot it

Soyabean drink and doughsticks are quite the national breakfast staples common in Taiwan. Locally, we do have a Yong He spinoff as well, supposedly from Taiwan but its authenticity remains questionable especially since their standards seemed to have dropped at such alarming rates.

According to the few taiwanese cabbies we spoke to, most claim that 永和豆漿大王 is an overfranchised brand, in fact none of which are related to each.  永和, a part of Taiwan does not even specialise in soyabean! Smart branding on the part of the founder methinks, whoever he or she is.

Nonetheless, we still gave 永和豆漿大王 a go since 阜杭豆漿 just opposite, threatened with an hour over wait.

yong he

Seemingly empty but was soon filled with people doing takeaways.
steamers

They even have xiaolongbaos!

storefront

Everyone has a designated job.

customers

Getting a table was no monkey business, simply wait around and you should get one in 5 minutes flat.

soyamilk

Thin soyabean milk which was okay, not great. Jollibean would have been a more gao option.

shao bing

燒餅 - light flaky layers that was surprisingly not oily!

doughsticks

油条 that was not too extraordinary either.

fried egg cake

蛋餅 was the closest to our egg prata only with spring onions tossed in for better fragrance. This was on the oily side though but otherwise the yummiest of the breakfast table items.

xlb

小籠包 that was no Din Tai Fung standard or intricacy, I gave up trying to spot even 8 even folds. Rough workmanship but these were quite decent - chewy skins, soupy fillings and of course, the meatball.

永和豆漿大王 does triumph the Singapore outlet tons but on its own, it's just ordinary Taiwanese breakfast fare at best.

  1. Are they even related?!? Never tried the Singapore 永和 though. But I LOL when you commented that Jollibean would have been a more gao option for the tauhuay zui hahaha.
