Two Fat Men Bar @ East Coast Road

Thai food in the East is not too readily available as compared to Golden Mile or Raffles City area for that matter. How about thai food in a pub? Two Fat Men was once known as Blow Fish Bar for a flickr of a week maybe..with such a tongue in cheek moniker...it's hard to ignore it. The gfs were raving about this and for once, I let them take lead where to go.

Possibly the most crowded along the stretch of Chai Chee Prawn Mee, Vietnamese cafe and Hongkong-style cafe, Two Fat Men gets a ready stream of people walking in for dinner or drinks or pub grub. What tops the deal is their screening of soccer matches till late. Lovely!

Even with the fairly limited menu, we had enough stomach and table space to accommodate the bar's best.

Som Tam Thai Salad ($5)

Has to come close to the real stuff, the papaya salad packs both an oomph for sour and punch for spice. Laced with peanuts and tomatoes, this mighty one is in the running for the best thai salad I've attempted.

tomyum soup

Tom Yam Seafood Soup ($6.90)

Unlike the salad, this did not fare as outstandingly. Was expecting an equally tongue numbing experience but was not the case.

Grilled Pork Neck with Tamarind Spicy Sauce ($8.90)

After a really ravishing display by Bar Stop, I had high hopes. This would pass off as the charred and tougher cousin of char siew..the tamarind spicy sauce was pretty good.

buffalo wings

Buffalo Wings ($6.90)

Sour skinny wings, anyone? That's quite a first for me, buffalo wings have been either too fiery from the sauces or tasted more like BBQ wings..

Beef Burger ($7.90)

The most unsuspecting item on the menu that is quite a stunner. This would throw a number of places out of business with this.

beef burger

As highlighted tons of times over how not a fan of minced meat patties I am, Two Fat Men got it so right. Barely the crumbly texture of minced beef, this soft patty held up quite brilliantly on its own. Wholesome junkfood, as much of an oxymoron it is...I'm lovin' it!

Fish and Chips

Battered fish and chips which was quite decent.

Paulaner Dunkel ($13.50)
Big Apple Jug (($9.80)

Wash these down with beer or their juices. Pity dessert is not part of the menu else it would have been the perfect place to chill for hours. Several servings of fried rice making it the next bestseller after the beef burger...perhaps next time? A really affordable eatery with great value offerings...!
