"Too few people understand a really good sandwich. " - James Beard, American chef and food writer.
I love a good sandwich the way I love a pair of well made shoes, it makes you feel good. Hardly do I walk into a restaurant and order a sandwich, if burger was ever an option. For Queen and Mangosteen, I made that exception.
Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich ($16.90)
And a side of fries.
Goodness me, it was hearty! Loved the fluffy chewy bread...well buttered and smeared with mango puree.
I walked away from Queen and Mangosteen feeling good.
Maybe a mid-afternoon drink would have made it all the better.
Subsequently, re-re visits were made for pub grub particularly - The oddest food cravings or lemmings I have sometimes!
A "pub grub" themed visit is never complete without a round of drinks and best of all, it's 1-for-1!
Bellini Cava ($15)
Mango and Strawberry for a start. Champagne with fruit puree, mango fared better here in terms of being complementary with the champagne.
Two glasses of New Zealand white, Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc ($15) followed suit though I forgot the name! A blend of green capsicum, passionfruit and gooseberry, I found this exceptionally acidic and dry. Not too huge a fan of this.
Pimm's and Lemonade ($12)
Deceptively alcoholic, I have to agree bottoms up on this. Signature of the Brits, I love their fruity rendition of Pimm's and Lemonade...
Irish Ale Pint ($12)
Smooth and light, for a non-beer fan..their brews are really worth a pint or two!
Beer Battered Onion Rings with Tangy Lime Mayo ($10)
The same batter as fish and chips, these onion rings were a tad bland however.
Hot Wings with Lemongrass and Chilli Aioli ($14)
Tasty juicy wings.
Traditional Cottage Pie served with Buttered Peas ($18)
Buttery potatoes with minced beef and peas. A really hearty cottage pie...really glad it wasn't dripping in oil.
Corn Chips with Mango Salsa ($8)
Comfort food, the kind I can snuck out infront of the telly with a bowl of. A pity the mango salsa was too fiery.

Fish and Chips served with Homemade Curry Tartare Sauce ($16)
No stranger to this highly popular Queen and Mangosteen signature, I thought the portion of fish fillets have shrunk quite considerably. That aside, the familiar crunchy beer battered coating was delightful.
Still a fan of their appetizing homemade curry tartare.
Chicken Tikka pieces served with Pita Bread and Cucumber, Yogurt and Mint Dip ($18)
A surprise in this! Though Pita bread was a tad overbaked and doughy, I actually liked the well seasoned tender chicken tikka pieces and complementary mint dip!
Bangers and Mash – Pork, Beef, Lamb served with Caramelised Onion Gravy ($26)
One good thing about their bangers is, unlike most processed ones you can really taste the minced meats here. Pity though, the flavours cannot be told apart. Yet, thumbs up for their mushroom laden gravy.
Ribeye Steak with Thick-cut Chips, Yorkshire Pudding, Garden Vegetables served with Mushroom Pepper Sauce ($38)
Recommended by the waitress, the yorkshire pudding made this British but otherwise it was through and through a grilled dish. Tender cut of beef seared to the right doneness and succulence but that was it, pretty decent for a pub! Adored the side of garden vegetables and thick cut fries.
Otherwise known as creme brulee. It was miles better than the fruit crumble.

Fruit Crumble with Vanilla Icecream ($12)
The thing is, I intended to order the White Chocolate Cassis cake but the kitchen denied my request to switch the chocolate icecream to vanilla, citing desserts are prepared in "whole". I wonder if they measure right down to the scoops of icecreams that go with specific dessert.
Anyhow, I headed for Fruit Crumble. The smallest pint-sized scoop of vanilla icecream on top a nicely baked fruit crumble. Loved the crumbly bits and then, it went down hill. Clumpy bland bits of crumble meets canned fruit.
Cambridge Burnt Cream ($10)
Otherwise known as creme brulee. It was miles better than the fruit crumble.
While service was still considered prompt, they seemed to be shorthanded at times handling full house through the night - does not help, gregarious soccer fans all around. They were screening the defining match between Man U and Everton that night.
