It's just something about the way you look tonight...that makes me proud to be Singaporean.

On a whim, I headed to Mozza Pizzeria at MBS. Located next to dB Bistro that I've been wanting to try...deciding between them both was a tussle within. Off to Mozza Pizzeria to see if the naysayers were right. Enter and choose your sides; right for a casual dining experience and left for fine dining. Throughout this whole time, the man at the counter completely ignored us and hopefully we'd walk off out of sheer frustration. Service glitch ONE.
Turn right we did and it was entering into a world of buzz, the chatter that filled the place was too noisy to ignore. If it is any comfort, fits the description of a pizza joint to a T - noise-wise.

Cosy bar counter.

Playful snaps whilst waiting.

Bottle of water..so fisherman style...ask me not why I associate fishermen to glass bottles..

Laid on the table was an evelope of a postcard, napkin and cutlery...talk about surprises. I had quite a bit of fun unravelling the contents of the envelope and reading the paper mats. Each was different; either an italian comic strip or trivia about American pizza. I suppose these were well placed to ease the hunger pangs for pizzas that needed approximately 45 minutes and appetizers that took equally long to arrive.

Complimentary parmesan crackers...main grouse, these were barely lukewarm.

Fried Goat Cheese with Umbrian Lentils ($16)
Portion is a tad small, I must add. Breaded goat cheese is quite a first with the pasty milky texture of goat cheese complemented quite well by well flavoured lentils. I've always been a fan of lentils so subsequently, I enjoyed it quite a fair bit.

Salumi piccante, mozarella, tomato and fresh red chillis ($26)
Pizza took a neat 30 minutes before arriving. Portions are well moderate...referencing to Pizzahut's..these are the size of their personal pan pizzas. Pricey? Unfortunately so. The puffed up skirting of the pizza was the main draw, it's been ages since I had one so puffed up...since these days the pizza fad is towards thin crust and skinny bases. The most amazing part of it is...despite having a base so thin, the bountiful sauces from the ingredients do not soak through, still remaining its firm hold quite well.

Amazing part two of it goes to the chewy bread rims that had that "made in paris" moment going on though it could do with a bit more density. Loved up I am with their pizzas...pretty pleased that they offer more than the usual Hawaiian, Curry Chicken or Seafood options.
The menu baffles, to be honest...with strings of ingredients that one would not be able to decipher if let on your own. The same repeats for dessert...at least 80% of the menu is not self explanatory.
Butterscotch Budino: Maldon seasalt and rosemary pine nut biscotti - Torched whipped cream
Peach Copetta with Frutti di bosco and Sbrisolona - Seared peaches with sugar.

Banana Gelato Pie: Hot Fudge and Candied Peanuts ($16)
Dessert of Banana Gelato Pie which the server gave a cheeky grin and mused "great choice" when it was served. Silently, I really hoped so after the non too exciting introduction and recommendation by the waitress. It looked like NYDC's mudpie, to be blatant. With the dollop of cream on top, I knew I was in sin-city. Bland cream faces off with banana gelato (Though I would have loved it beyond heaven if they had mashed bananas within) and a incredibly crumbly biscuit base...and the crunchiest candied peanuts...I know, I know...I'm gushing about it. I finally figured out why whipped cream is such a Miss Congeniality in American desserts..the way the kitchen generously drowns most desserts in...it is pure heaven! Yes, I lapped it all up...most graciously. Oh yes, the supposed chocolate sauce had a sticky texture and had coffee hints in it. Am I bananas over it? YOU BET.
Mozza Pizzeria was a pleasant experience, a breath of fresh air amongst the flurry of pizza joints laying claims over "such-and-such" flavour or the thinnest crust alive. More than decent the food is yet they could work on the service. I won't be rushing back so soon given the distance from anywhere at all but after a hard day's of work...Mozza could be your answer to a different kind of comfort food.
