A Macaron Trail: Laduree @ Champs Elysees

Champ Elysees, Paris' answer to our Orchard Road...only way more luxurious and crowded. Laduree opens as early as 730am and closes as late as midnight. Same goes for majority of the eateries and shops in Champ Elysees.

Laduree was highly anticipated, as with Pierre Herme.

Laduree, oh laduree..pronounced lar-du-hey. If robin blue were signature of Tiffanys, mint green would be Laduree's signature shade. This particular outlet at Champ Elysees spots a takeaway counter, bar and restaurant.

The workers replenishing the coat of paint.

The Parisians take pains to dress their window displays up and from a distance, the macaron tower and green boxes were quickening my footsteps.

Enter and be charmed by the fine drapery and wall papered surroundings. Alice in Wonderland? Fairy Tale, it is. Pennies and pounds-wise, we opted for takeaway though it was admittedly very tempting to sit and be waited on.

Macarons (8€)

Every macaron fan swears by the two legendary, Laduree is one of the prestiged. Join the queue even if you only want a croissant takeaway. The dazzling array of candy popping colours are dizzifying. I almost got lost in translation. I really wish I could say "One of each flavour." These are considered Laduree's "emblem".

Liquorice, Caramel with superfine salt, Rose Petal, Lemon-citronella, Chocolate, Pistachio.

Laduree's sugar shells are crisp yet not chewy, fillings are a tad too sweet however. Morsels of sugar, delightful in colour yet I was expecting more...I credit the overhype.

Can't get enough of the pastels.

Ispahan (6,40 €)
Smooth rose flavoured macaroon biscuit, rose petal cream, fresh raspberries and lychees

I returned for this on a separate occasion after knowing well a proper Pierre Herme outlet was nowhere in the vicinity. Visually a huge tease. The rose petal complete with droplets of sugar gel, the sweet pink shade of the macaron shells with bulbous raspberries and lychees. The macaron shells were chewier here, sour raspberries and sweet lychees failed to strike a balance somehow. Lacked the chemistry I would have desired. This came across as sweet, sweet...sweet.

Tart Griotama (4,60 €)

Queer combination of tart base, cherry jelly and marshmellow-mousse on top. Not a favourite.

Laduree, tried and tested..maybe dining in could have made this more magical. Yet that being said...macarons if you must try but I was not impressed with the takeaway cakes.
