Delta Terras @ Amsterdam, Holland

Mother's Day was a call for celebration given that it was the first time we were in foreign land for this occasion and we always celebrated it anyway! (A hint of how backdated the posts are!) I was driven raving mad with the craving for White asparagus and when the tour bus drove down this stretch I remembered vaguely seeing white asparagus somewhere...but tragedy struck when I could not find it and the temperatures seemed to dip further with every step made. Certainly did not help that the wind gusts were getting stronger too...!

We took shelter in a warm looking cafe packed with people.

Kipfilet (15€)

Chicken Breast with salad, simply. I found the chicken on the bland side though well grilled.

Hutspot (14,50)

A signature Dutch stew with braised beef and a carrot-potato mash. The mash had a natural sweetness, largely attributed to the carrots but really, this was totally baby food. The beef was in all tenderness, pretty good.

Frites to accompany any dish...a must have at every Dutch meal!

I should never step near Rider's Cafe nor a horse stable ever again, I fear severe condemnation. Bitterballens (6,50€), hear them neigh! If you guessed right, these are horse meat croquette balls. These are going for 1€ at Mcdonalds...how I wish I saw them earlier!

Spy 'em horse meat bits? They really were mashed so fine till you cannot taste much apart from the slight gameyness that would have given its origins away. Tasted quite good with mustard.

Appelgebak (3,50€)

Dessert's a must always..but this was a tragic apple pie. Cold and soggy.

Mother's Day came and went,  not the best dutch food eaten despite the large Dutch community patronizing.

  1. Bitterballen is also available in Peperoni Pizzeria in Singapore. But hubby was looking for a more mushy texture just like the one you had. But of course, ain't horse in Singapore :)

  2. @ lorraine: oh? but the one at peperoni isn't authentic i guess, given it's italian to begin with! they'd be sued if it's really horse meat!
