Bounce by Chef Daniel @ Illuma, Bugis

Television has given the unsung heroes behind the polished tabletops of restaurants a voice, unlike Japanese cuisine where chefs are mostly facing you...the rest are mostly hidden in the kitchen. Television gave Jamie Oliver fame, the same way television opened far more doors for Chef Daniel. In all honesty, I did not match his face to this restaurant until the food bloggers decided to have an outing there.

Located on the top most floor of Illuma, locating it is not exactly the easiest task...but the view all the way to the top made it a different kind of dining...perhaps trying to rival penthouse dining at Orchard Central?

Affordable dining with all the fuss.

Set lunches go for a squeak of $10.50 nett. No better deal than this yet!

Soup of the day - Cream of corn

Hearty soup with lovely corn undertones, loved how this did not taste straight out of an aluminium can.

Toasty foccacia to go with it. Wished the herbs were more fragrant though, otherwise it really is just a slice of bread.

Beef Burger

Burgers are my weakest link. This was served almost deconstructed with a patty on one and the relish on the other half of the bun. Delightfully tangy sauce drizzled on pickled cucumbers and tomatoes.

Minced meat patty on a corn loaf bread. Whilst the other carnivores did not seem to sing as much praises of this like me, I actually liked this. Not as soggy as described by the rest, the well flavoured meaty juices got me smiling. I adore how the patty had bite and was well marinated. No offence to Cafe Epicurious fans but this wins the cafe's hands down.

Eel rice

Two plump grilled eels on a bed of warm fluffy rice drenched in egg.

The first few bites were delightful but thereafter, things somehow came to a boring standstill.

Some of the other dishes the rest of the table had;

Pork Katsu

Fish & Chips

Prawn and Crabmeat Burger

Pork Netsuke

Beef Stew

Dessert of the Day; Raspberry Mousse

A half hearted attempt at dessert, the sour mousse and sponge cake had mixed reviews. I had absolutely nothing to complain of $10.50 that I was forking out. The dessert in itself had nothing to jump around about, I was indeed thankful the sponge was not soaked through...proportions was fair.

Value is what Bounce offers. Value sky dining is what this is all about. I hear set dinners are going for $28 nett.
