Silk Road @ Amara Hotel

Located on the 2nd floor of Amara Hotel, snug in a corner lies Silk Road...Ready to take on
authentic chinese cuisine?

Silk Road is an iconic part of China, definitely not for the fainthearted. It was a crucial path for cultural, technological as well as commercial exchanges thousands of years ago. The pathway into Silk Road restaurant at Amara Hotel was a well designed one, with chinese verses engraved on tiles!

Eight Treasures Tea
Dried longans, walnuts, almond, raisins, wolfberries

Served complimentary and only one portion each, it came with a chef and his tea pot with a long spout which was part of the entertainment. Found it just ordinary tea though I had a great time fishing out the delicious and wholesome ingredients from the tea.

Appetizers
Braised Tofu and peanuts, Preserved Vegetables

Braised Tofu and peanuts

Screams "Teochew Muay", if only there were congee to complete the craving. These had a slight acquired aftertaste.

Preserved Vegetables

A tad too oily...similarly, if only there were congee.

Cold Dish
Clams, Braised Chicken with Mushroom, Chilled Cucumbers

Found the chicken home-made, refreshing cucumbers and clams that were a tad soft. A cold dish well put together, regardless.

Spicy Sour Soup
Fish Maw, Mushrooms, Tofu

Uniquely szechuan though I've tasted better. This was thick and gooey with chockfuls of tofu and fish maw.

Cod Fish in Sweet Spicy Sauce

Found the sauce too starchy. Did not taste like cod though.

Smoked Duck

A tad dry and lacking the fragrance that Peony Jade has long pampered me with!

Fried Rice

Bland fried rice with a spicy punch.

Stir Fried Vegetables

Oil. Oil. Oil.

Wasabi Mayo Prawns

Yet another oil soaked dish. Not quite a fan of their version of Wasabi Prawns, had it not been for the sharp-tongued companions, I'd have missed the hint of wasabi totally!

Mango Sago

Sour mango cubes in a sago laden sweet soup.

Food was a tad too oily which made me conclude Silk Road is largely Sichuan cuisine. This Silk Road? Also not for the fainthearted.
