Jewels Artisan Chocolate @ Orchard Central

313 and Orchard Central confuses me so..I actually walked up to the concierge to request for "Jewels". Such is the embarrassment but thankfully she did not suggest a jeweler.

Located in between Lush 99.5 and Burger King, Jewels seems mismatched location wise, but truth be told...which part of Orchard Central is well matched?

Some nuggets of information about their chef...

A chocolatier in the F and B industry for more than 20 years, Then Chui Foong has apprenticed with highly regarded confiseurs such as Pierre Marcolini and Pierre Herme.

Pierre Marcolini....Belgium.
Pierre Herme....Paris.

There you have it, the big(gest)wigs (read: creme of the crop) of the two highly sought after specializations; chocolate and macarons.

So there, the layout is clear cut for chilling (seriously a major pun given the freezing temperatures of Orchard Central!) and watching the chefs do wonders with malleable chocolate OR simply admire the finished sugar arts in display cabinets.

Kyanite ($3/pc)
Pandan, Coconut, White Chocolate

The only one without any trace of cocoa. The fillings will frozen stiff though I would have hoped for a molten liquid centre. Light flavoured pandan-coconut fillings with a thin white chocolate shell. Smoothness was achieved yet it failed to linger in the mouth longer...same goes for the over sweetness of the morsel.

The "designer chocolate" experience is a treat in itself...from the time I browse the chiller, to finding very one screams out to you from behind the glass panels, to finally tasting it...it's as exhilarating as going to a toystore.

And I thought they had a better way of serving them.

Stacking macarons make you realise how non-uniform they are.

Pastel shades-a-loving!

Passionfruit (Blue)
passion fruit conserve and almond cream

Least favourite of the lot, it could have been the order eaten as this lacked the same distinct flavours the outstanding ones had.

Green Tea (Green)
green tea and dark chocolate crunchy pearl

Nice textures with the crunchy pearls. Liked the mild green tea flavouring.

Raspberry (Pink)
raspberry conserve and rose almond cream

Tasted just the way I expected it to.

Butterfly Pea Bloom (Yellow)
kaya and pandan almond cream

Local flavour to the french favourite, reminiscent of Kaya Lotee Icecream from Icecream chefs! Adored how the kaya and pandan provided such rich pleasure.

Black Palm Island Salt (Speckled)
salted egg and almond cream topped with black palm island salt

Personal favourite! Essence of molten custard salted egg pau exquisitely captured in a macaron.

The macarons are amongst the best in Singapore, next to Canele. Thin sugar shells with generously stuffed with fillings...the best part about it has to be the chewy withins and creamy finish. Loves it! Definitely does not hurt that these babies are coloured gentle pastels...!

Jewels stands out because of little tweaking that makes their macarons tastefully local. Their macarons priced at $2 per piece are way affordable, given the quality and taste (most importantly.) You bet I'll be returning for more of them!

I should have tried the sorbets to completely taste their non-chocolate offerings.
