Food For Thought @ Singapore Art Museum

Food For Thought at North Bridge Road stands out for its homey feel, many a time I always wanted to pop by but was put off by the place reeking of kitchen. Red Velvet and Durian cake are a few of the supposed stellar ones by home bakers. Same goes for their ever popular sandwiches. And so I thought the concept was the same for this slightly more arty farty outlet just next to Singapore Art Museum. Like Fish&Co's glass house outlet, this adopts the same concept.

No GST!

Reservations are very necessary with "chope" signs on every visible table, else risk sitting at the counter, facing the wall.

Dangling glass jars that made it extra arty-farty.

I'm not alone who's also in awe.

Chunky Sausage and Tomato Linguine ($15)

Highly recommended by the waiter next to the Bacon Carbonara. At the rate the kitchen was whipping up piping hot plates, these two were undoubtedly their best sellers.

Found it on the saucy and salty side though the linguine was well cooked.

Rosemary Garlic Salt Fries ($4)

Thick cut fries with generous dusting of rosemary and salt. The kind that I'd have expected out of Everything With Fries.

Delish dips, salsa and thai chilli sauce instead of the usual Maggi sauces.

Red Velvet Cake ($6)
Cherry cake, Cherry Sauce

Anything velvet rocks my boat though the kitchen suggested Peanut Butter Jelly. I risked pimples for Spruce's Purple Velvet...and upon catching sight of Red Velvet, I thought I struck gold. Food For Thought's one of the few places I've seen Red Velvet at! The red colouring's so rich, it literally screams at you. Felt the strawberry sauce was superfluous, could be done away with...it ended up looking more goth that it should..nearly qualifying as Halloween's official dessert.

Stiff cream cheese frosting with equally stiff layers of cherry cake. It almost did not taste like cake, the dryness was particularly evident at the bottom. With portions enough to rival P.S. Cafe's, finishing it was quite a task.

Their famous sandwiches are only available up to 5pm, with their menu replaced with mains like Ribs, steaks and curry chicken cutlets...if not head for their more affordable pasta and risottos.

A return? Food for thought, really.

Just to sidetrack, there's a store within FFT itself so feel free to browse their wares...another KKii-Drom Store concept! Embracing such cafe-shop concepts!

  5. Thanks for the review. I'll let the pastry chef know about the Red Velvet cake being a little dry. I'm sure she'll appreciate the feedback.

(Love how you call the decor "arty farty"! That's certainly a first!)
