Gandi Restaurant @ Chander Road

The Dad chanced upon this cheap eat one day and had to bring us there, hoping to replace the usual favourites of Muthu's and Banana Leaf Apollo.

Long queues of Indian nationals hint at the authenticity and affordability of Indian fare at this particular restaurant at Racecourt Road.

There is no option of chapatti or thosai or naan, just rice to fill the ravenous blue collared workers. Instantly, dripping wet banana leaves are placed infront of you. You barely have time to clean off the water droplets totally before a man comes around with tins of piping hot vegetable curries and yet another with steaming rice.

Later on, a man goes round with a tray of dishes for you to pick...almost like dimsum.

Crunchy Papadum to complete the meal...

Unlimited refills of spinach-chick pea curry and bottle gourd curry. Watching the man ladle curry from his metal tins will always be a fond memory of mine. I polished them off greedily, flavourful curries with steaming hot rice, what can go wrong?

Masala Chicken was tasty but oily. Indian curry in particular, reduces my willpower to nothingness. A weak defence I put up against the oil as I scrape my plate clean for this.

Fried fish, similar to its Nasi Lemak cousin.

Fish Bergedil, always a must order.

Balls of potato, fish, onions and peppers deepfried to a yummy brown. Rich in spices, colourful and mouthwatering.

Indeed we stood out like a sore thumb amidst the buzzing Indian community. They partook of their meals with such enthusiasm, watching them eat with their bare hands has always been a revelry.

Belly happy, pocket happy...Gandi serves up a modest meal that rivals its refined counterparts in terms of quality.
