I had a major (so major I could have ripped Mickey mouse's ears off in Disneyland.. *oops*) craving for Roast Goose but all the planned trips to a popular Roast meat restaurant (Nope, not Yung Kee) was canned due to lousy weather. Yes I know Yung Kee is high up on the pedestal with the tourists swarming there and giving them more reason to charge sky high and the standard may not be as good as before.
Small talk aside, I made do with Yuan Kee during one of the night market trips.
Roast Goose Drumstick (HKD 50)
Goose definitely tastes different from chicken and duck, the tender meat and crispy skin sets it apart. Oh yes, the knob on its beak is the main differentiation when looking at the row of roasted poultry.
Yuan Kee's version did not wow for obvious reasons but still very tender and juicy. The skin was roasted to the ideal crisp, was soggier than expected.
Two types of condiments, spring onion oil and plum sauce.
Oil Vegetables that once again, literally swimming in oil.
Foodwise, was not the best of all meals...and certainly the craving was not satisfied.
The people here are really warm, engaging in conversations and jokes with us. That is the side of Hongkongers that is attractive, the warmth extended...their affable personalities. Unfortunately, only a select few teahouses are like that.
