The charm of PS Cafe leaves one hard to elude from. Maybe the strategic location, maybe the opening hours...I always head back to be charmed or de-charmed. I used to prefer the Dempsey outlet more than Paragon.
Not at all crowded on a Friday night, somehow this resembles a glasshouse.
Although just one page, deciding on what to get was a nervewrecking one.
Grapefruit Lychee Caiprioska ($18)
Fresh Grapefruit, Lychee liquer, vodka muddled with lime and sugar with a splash of soda on crushed ice.
We were egged on by the waiter to give this a try. I find this cocktail odd. The first sip was bland because of all the shaved ice. Upon removing the ice, it tasted bitter because of all the grapefruit slices. We left it to cool and voila! It tasted fruity and zesty, finally the taste as promised by the waiter "refreshing." Loved the fruity finds of grapefruit and lychees at the bottom.
Pineapple Meringue Pie served with vanilla ice cream ($14)
I was tempted because of the towering smoked cream on top the tart, rendering a mad impressive dessert. Doesn't the vanilla ice look so puny next to the tart!
The meringue is but melted marshmellow and torched to achieve the beehive look which I found too sweet. The tart tasted much like a pineapple tart only more sour. The tart is crusty like a crunchy biscuit..yum! I got hooked onto the tart, forkful after forkful.
Sticky Lemon and Chewy Florentine served with vanilla ice cream ($12.50)
Kudos to PS. Cafe for this dessert. Unassuming slice of lemon cake with such cottony texture, the chewy nutty florentines were such a joy to eat. The lemon taste is not obvious.
I particularly fancy the one at Palais Renaissance of the three outlets, for its peace at night. Hard to find a place that is not in its busy mode, people dashing here and there...Palais has a certain irresistible charm with its tenants like Marmalade Pantry and PS Cafe. Will be back, for sure!

ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you on the ambience bit though the desserts have hits and misses..this certain irresistible overpriced charm =P
