Pasta Inc @ Jalan Besar

Hungrygowhere's been plugging this place for months now and with the gang who's more than willing to travel far and wide for good food, I suggested Pasta Inc...totally ignorant about the difficulty of finding a parking lot and it's not all that easy to find it afterall! You've got to go slow and try spotting Pasta Inc along the shophouses.

I made reservations but upon arrival it seemed that they were not entirely expecting us at all. Anyhow, we were given a corner table for 5 that proved to be more than squeezy as the meal progressed.

Cream leather bound menus...I like their choice of rich colours, maroon and cream.

Chandeliers to complete the romantic-cosy setting.

And then, I realised we were seated NEXT to the kitchen safe for a curtain. Thankfully I didn't reek of the kitchen.

I thought this was quite brilliant...clever usage of projecting the light.

Olive oil without the vinegar...seems so out of place.

Seafood Basket ($14.90)

A platter of tempura squid rings, prawns and mussels, I like how the batter's thinly coated but the seafood's mostly bland. This was served with spicy sauce but was not at all spicy, tasted much like pureed salsa.

Bread basket...slap on butter onto the toasty warm crust and chewy bread, I say...yuuuuum. We shared 5 baskets amongst 4 adults and a kid.

Spaghetti Bolognese

I liked this. The spaghetti was cooked nicely, maintaining a certain chewiness in the noodle, paired with the meaty sauce, nice one Pasta Inc!

Seafood Saffron

Honestly, it was a toss up between Seafood Saffron and the weekly special. I found this not too bad, fettucine was used in this dish as well.

Crabmeat Fettucine, Weekly Special

It arrived with a "scrunched up dumpling like packaging". The crabmeat's plentiful, ribbons of pasta were well tossed in the sauce. Within the first few bites, I declared it a winner but going beyond that, the sauce ended up sweet and "jelard" probably from using coconut milk.

Squid Ink Spaghetti ($16.90)

With the dim lighting, eating this is quite a challenge. The gf loved it though.

Service fluctuates from server to server. There was a group of caucasians behind us and the waiter was at their table most of the time tending to their every need. He probably overheard us waxing lyrical about their non-existent service by explaining "the restaurant is very busy hence service is quite slow." Of which my friends and I beg to differ.

#1: There were only 4 occupied tables, maximum 20 people in the restaurant. If they were really so busy, why was the waiter permanently fixed at the table behind us? If he chose not to address our grouses there and then, it probably would not have seemed as a more deliberate effort for service discrepancies.

#2: We had to request for nearly most of the things that would be present at any other Italian eatery. Balsamic vinegar when olive oil was on the table, Parmesan cheese, bread basket and to get anybody's attention at all.

#3: The waitress got herself so confused with the promo of "2nd pasta 50% off", we were more muddled up than not.

The service lapse is far more glaring than the food disappointments. To travel far and wide for such service, I probably won't. Otherwise, the food is decent.
