SupperClub @ Odeon Towers

Supperclub's a new kid on the block and originates from Amsterdam. They promise a unique dining experience. Unique in terms of presentation, way you eat your food..entertainment...right down to the toilets! Located on the second floor, don't be silly and attempt the stairs lest you end up at the back of the club which has restricted access.

Unique Experience #1: We were greeted at the door by an affable drag queen. She obliged to photo-whoring once dinner started at 8pm.

Unique Experience #2: Drag queen performances, not one but two! Hilarious they were, highly enjoyable too though it was just lip syncing and prancing around. We were treated to a round of high energy moves and body contortions by an uber rake thin drag queen.

Unique Experience #3: When asked where's the toilet, the waiter enters the "gents" and points to the door next to the gents. Once you enter, you'll realise the gents and ladies share the same toilet! Talk about extraordinary.

Unique Experience #4: It's literally dinner in bed, rather than breakfast, complete with fluffy cushions and a bed! Only grouse, the space was quite limited so one may end up with strained muscles or cramps. :P

Unique Experience #5: The staff at Supperclub are spontaneous people! They pose and preen for the camera (once they spy a camera aiming at them, they'll break into a smile just for you), break into a little dance in between and check for your comments every now and then. I was highly amused when the sous chef jumped up onto the serving counter and started passing plates of food to those sitted upstairs.

In the world of Supper Club, normal is not accepted. "Be your own guinea pig" Supper Club challenges. The food "tickles your heart and carresses your soul", beautiful wordplay and I discovered if it truly lived up to what they promised.

The proof for #5!

Spy the chef!

The door bitch doing a lil lipsync dance for us...uber duper big surprise! It's kumar style, only more outrageous.

Tres innovative way of passing the food to those on the second floor, the cleanfreak in me kicked in though, is that the table that our food is prepared on?

Amuse bouche served by a heavily made up lady with cornrow braids that are miles long.

Amuse Bouche of Breaded beef balls served on a tray of toothpicks with a cream sauce. Tasted more like a cheese ball, was too hot to identify the make up of it but was delicious.

To complete the lounge experience, we had drinks! Pina colada, mojito...

Lychee martini too.

Ice water is not their thing, still or sparkling is. Their alcoholic drinks are not too bad, not fabulous..a little watered down though.

Gloves were passed round...

Appetizer of Salmon with rocket salad and baby tomatoes.

Eaten with a glove! I was stumped when gloves were passed around. Eating with your hands is not quite the most enjoyable way in my opinion (after two bouts of tummy upsets after I ate with my bare fingers) but it's all in the name of experience! I was expecting smoked salmon but this was sashimi, very fresh and went awesomely with the rocket salad.

Leek soup with prawns, chives and sour cream.

The gfs and I were half expecting soup to be consumed using straws after such an "out of the norm" appetizer. The soup albeit bearing thin consistency was tasty, the sour cream swirls worked its magic with the knotted sweet prawns. They can go easier on the bicarbonate though.

Grilled Seabass with Potato and Pumpkin cream.

For once, I polished off any fish dish, skin and all. The meat is firm and fresh, the magic lies in the crisp grilled skin of the seabass. There was a certain crispiness in the skin that made it seem like eating crackers. The french beans had too much fibre. Cream sauces are hardly my thing but these cream sauces tasted very wholesome!

Creme Brulee with pineapple and chocolate chip icecream.

No torching of creme brulee in sight, they were all pre-prepared. It was served in an ashtray, edges were laced with sugar crystals, scattered with preserved pineapple cubes and topped off with a scoop of chocolate chip ice-cream. The ice-cream is packed with chocolate shavings, the gfs were tres impressed. The pineapples don't really work with the creme brulee but I did not mind it one bit. Creme brulee was smooth and silky, I wish there were more!

Executive chef Executive Chef Ulpho van der Zalm struck a chord with me. His name sounds Dutch but he looks French, oops. Anyway he spots a lean figure, very un-chef in both outlook and mannerisms, he's not the least bit stern looking and was spotted taking pictures of his own creations. The menu he whipped up was different, in true Supperclub style.

Indeed, my senses were tickled and boy, one very memorable dinner. It will take alot for another to tease and enchant me the way Supperclub did.
