The last I went to Fong Seng was a good 8 years ago...and then, it was probably the best around. Fong Seng offers nasi lemak, a malay dish cooked chinese style with a mind dazzling array of dishes to go with fragrant coconut rice ala Punggol Nasi Lemak or the famous Tanjong Pagar one.
The usual combination as seen from the rest of the diners seems to be fried egg, ikan bilis, sausage.
For 8 dollars, you get
2 plates of coconut rice with balachan
Not fragrant nor fluffy. Ordinary rice heavy on coconut.
Achar
A decent achar, would've been better if it weren't watery or stronger in taste.
Curry Chicken
Watery oily curry with soft chicken and potato.
Fried fish
Terribly fishy. Frying it couldn't even mask the taste. Awful.
Teriyaki chicken
Tender chicken with a nice balance of teriyaki sauce and grilled. Definitely the best of the dishes.
This certainly wasn't quite what I was expecting of Fong Seng. Disappointing in fact.
