Al Forno East Coast @ East Coast

Singaporeans would travel far and wide for food, an undisputable fact. So much so, you don't quite frequent the food gems around the residential area. Al Forno's one of which, the last I frequented was during a birthday years back, when they did the shift opposite the road (the same time Margarita's closed due to inability to find a rental space) I started panicking.. for fear of losing contact of this pizza place. Anyway the new place is done up, they're back where they started off from..everything is pretty much the same, down to the layout..the pizza bar...

Armed with a hungry sister, we conquered Al Forno in much gusto, people somehow kept looking at us devour two mains...is that such a great deal? Probably the way we polished off the dishes.

Their somewhat unprofessionally done menus. Considered "flimsy" under Italian restaurants' standard.

Watching the chef scatter ingredients, bake the pizzas...was quite an enthralling sight.

Reservations are recommended as it gets progressively more crowded into the night.

A must have! They turned out surprisingly not too spicy not cheezy...

Pizza Con Carne ($25)

Tomato, mozzarella cheese, ham, salami, sausages & minced beef

I was tempted by the string of meats they'd put into the pizza but when it arrived, fell short of expectations. As far as the tastebuds can discern, there was only beef balls, minced beef, ham, tomato and cheese..couldn't taste salami nor sausages.

The pizza bread was tasty though, chewy and dough-y enough. The ingredients were slightly bland hence the heavy peppering of chilli flakes and parmesean cheese. One good thing about their pizzas, even after being left untouched till the end of the meal, they still tasted good, not soggy at all!

Spaghetti Cicale ($23)
Spaghetti with crayfish in garlic and tomato sauce

A display by itself with two halves of crayfish towering over the spaghetti. The crayfish was fresh, succulent and pity it came it such small portions! Spaghetti was absolutely slurp-worthy, I couldn't resist twirling my fork for the oodles of smooth noodles. One unctous pasta but was well worth it. The garlic and tomato sauce wasn't overpowering..overall better than the pizza.

I was too full to attempt the desserts..but I had in mind what to order..coconut gelato or mandarin ice-cream! A local twist to Italian desserts I say.

Service was attentive amidst the bustling restaurant, our glasses were refilled so many times. We spied squid ink pasta, seafood risotto and rocket pizza that looked equally delish...Al Forno again!

Oh, doesn't hurt that there's a 1-for-1 pasta/pizza promo going on...:)
