Tonkichi @ Suntec

Back at Tonkichi again! R and I tried it at a different outlet this time..the 20% promotion on ala carte was too good to miss.

Sansho Katsu Set, $20

Sansho katsu (deep fried pork loin marinated with Japanese pepper) and chawanmushi, served with appetizer, rice, miso soup and dessert.

The pork's tougher than my hire, obviously! I stole R's appetizer of chilled cucumber and eel, an ice-hold delicious appetizer with a slight sour twang.

Miso Hire Katsu Set, $22

I remember preferring the Hire over Rosu the other visit, so all for Hire this time! Their miso soup's a favourite of mine, somewhat a soup above the rest in terms of taste. I slurped it up greedily.

The special miso sauce that went with the fried pork loins...*smacks lips*, uber duper tasty and compliments the deep fried pork perfectly. The thing about Tonkichi katsus are...there's hardly an oil taste, nor trace of oil at all. They make katsu way less sinful than they originally are. The batter's so crunchy, meat's so tender, I'd think hire is the waygu of pork..I walloped everything without complaining.

Tonkichi didn't disappoint again, not for the food at least! They made pork katsu a royalty dish, supreme in quality and taste. Their dessert of three slices of orange was saccharine sweet.

Oh, they're also consistent in their service, aloof, hurried...and nowhere near the courteous service Japanese are famous for.

There are different promotions for each outlet, surprisingly though they all belong to the same parent company!
