Brought wl and bh to my favourite Korean restaurant near the office for some authentic korean food. Surprisingly empty during lunch, though kiasu me insisted wl went earlier to reserve seats for us.
The sides that came with it...didn't fancy anything much..maybe the potato slices and fishcake..and kimchi of course!
Soondooboo-Jjigae, $9.10
A favourite of my colleagues and mine, the soups they have! Under lunch specials they've got soft tofu/beef/kimchi soup. Soft tofu it is and plenty of that, with shell fish and squid and an egg. The broth's very strong on flavours, went well with rice and whetted our appetites hugely.
Jajangmyeon, $8.40
A first for me from a Korean restaurant. Pity I didn't get to try any of that in Korea. It came in a humongous bowl, thick black evil looking bean sauce with ingredients like sweet potato, cucumber and meat cubes and chewy noodles that was on the sweet side. Quite different from what I envisioned it to be. China's version of it is slightly saltier and meatier. We polished it clean nonetheless. For sucha huge portion, very value for money.
Bimbap, $10
Now now, this is what I've wanted to try for the longest time. Korea's take on sushi! An observation between the bimbap and sushi, it's less refined. You can see towards the end of the sushi roll, the ingredients are left wrapped haphazardly, the carrot sticks, luncheon meat, pickles and rice. The sauce they gave complimented bimbap awesomely, I ever knew apart from wasabi and soya sauce there can be a condiment that goes SO well with sticky rice!
Ahh, and the familiar sweet note HTG always ends the meal with, fruit slice and ginger-ginseng-red date-pine nut tea! The company relished every drop.
Service is always hurried, for some reason. We'll be unanimously back for BBQ! We left stuffed yet satiated.
