A childhood favourite, the famous humongous sized dimsum, at its peak the har gaos were even slightly bigger than pingpong balls! Tiong Bahru Pau has been, to me...dimsum as the common folk would have them, hassle free...presentation and taste has no correlation. No such thing as dainty looking dimsum. No such thing as shark's fin or black fungus in their dimsum, just the filling and the pastry.
Of late, possibly due to the price inflation of nearly everything...the dimsum's looking daint-ier, smaller in size, lacking in bite...no more the value for money impression I get!
That being said, TBP still brings back childhood memories, it's like a blast from the past. Eating dimsum from a plastic bag, the lor mai gai...ma lai gou (Malay cake, loosely translated)..and fried pastry with meat and egg...the open air hawker center.
