Sin Lee Foods @ Jalan Bukit Ho Swee

Sin Lee Foods replaces an old coffee shop, retaining the name and overall vibe of this old neighbourhood and brings a breath of fresh air - well, it reeked of fried food when we patronized. My heart goes out to the residents of the block.

They do not believe in eggs benedict, the usual brunch fanfare but have half cooked eggs in all of their mains. The irony, I muse. Nonetheless, the menu was adequate for 2 mains and 1 appetizers.

Aburi Broccoli Salad ($13)

Highly raved about for its textures and flavours displayed on the plate, I was most looking forward to these torched vegetables. They arrived looking almost burnt and bitter, the flavours of mayo, almond flakes and japanese seasoning did not help with the bitterness. Neither crunchy nor soft, it was just an awkward in between.

Sorry, not sorry I am just not a fan.

Beef and Grains ($25)

Striploin was overcooked and finally served in medium doneness, soaking in orzo pasta that was passed off as rice and topped with a heap of furikake seasoning. Oh and a fried egg, plenty going on but the marriage was not a pleasant one.

Mentaiko Crab Mantou ($23)

The pampadam was distracting, particularly served with orange sugar made it queer. Nothing to fault of my fried mantou and equally deep fried soft shell crab drizzled with mentaiko sauce.

In my opinion overhyped, plenty of fried food and runny eggs on the menu.

    1. Could be inconsistencies because every review I've read raved about it!
