Tao Heung under Maxim Group has been at the back of my mind for quite awhile now. We finally made it to breakfast one morning (early enough for my standards) but the place was already booming with business - note the number tags that are generated almost nonstop.
A messily put together table - a result of table sharing and having groups of people finishing their food at the same time.
The reason for the crowds - breakfast discounts!
Crispy beancurd skin stuffed with prawn paste (HKD 11.80)
Too oily and was decent.
Polo Char Siew Pau (HKD
The deflated outlook was a good enough indication of how it would taste.
Disappointing it sure was with a sweet crumbly bun topped with a sweet char siew filling. Definitely not a fan of this.
Oil Vegetables (HKD 14.80)
Daily veggies with a dash of soya, where's the rice to go?
Shrimp Dumplings (HKD 17.80)
Really average shrimp dumplings.
Shang Hai Xiao Long Bao (HKD 10.80)
Even more average xiao long bao with skin so thick, lifting it was definitely a breeze since the bao took shape easily in all that density.
Three types (HKD 14.80)
Thick rice rolls as well with a variety of fillings, it is moments like these that I wish less is more.
Black Bean Pork Ribs (HKD 14.80)
More bone than meat but the bean paste sauce was actually yummy.
Siew Mai (HKD
Elastic siewmai. I wish for this dimsum meal to end soon.
Jelly and Ma Lai Goh
At least decent dessert but this was served chucked to one side - either it was hurried or a clear case of shoddy work.
Tao Heung is really subpar dimsum for Hongkong's standards. Service was halfpastsix as well. Prices are valid for early checkout before 1130am.
