Back at Jewels for their macarons, primarily. I suppose Jewels has lost some of its initial hype given the evening crowd was minimal.
Always a fan of their macarons and I had to order them.
I like my macarons stacked. Somehow it tells if they are uniformly made - such is being anal.
Black Palm Island Salt ($3)
Still a stunning combination with the wedge of salted egg yolk sandwiched in between.
Brun
Hazelnut and almond praline was less stellar with a simpler contrast of hazelnut and almond.
I thought their macarons were less sweet than the rest attempted and flavours still spot on yet the chewy density was clearly missing.
Kyanite ($4)
Kaya in white chocolate, as local as it can get. I had to indulge in their rows of tempting chocolates.
Dark Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream ($11.80)
The painful jab.
This order took 20 minutes and was the most unjust 20 minute wait ever. Dark Chocolate cake was barely piping hot, molten chocolate needed much coaxing to ooze out.
Blood Orange Sherbet
Recommended by the waiter and this had to be one of the few times I have to agree hands and legs that this recommendation was spot on and really not to clear stocks - if you get the drift about making "strong" recommendations just to move the supply and not based on popularity.
Never been a fan of blood orange, now I am. Rather, never been a fan of sherbet or sorbet, now I completely am. Richness encapsulated in the icy ball - almost as if they blended an entire blood orange to produce that one scoop. Refreshing on the palette, sherbet over icecream!
With the waning crowd, I am keeping my fingers crossed about Jewels out lasting the other chocolatiers and dessert places. I have got my eye set on their mooncakes this year!

Missing Jewels' Black Palm Island Salt macaron!
ReplyDeleteI finally tried Ladurée macarons. I concluded that Pierre Hermé's macarons are way above par. Pierre Hermé is indeed the King of Macarons. None can compare. Most of Ladurée's flavors disappoint, flavors are just too weak. Coffee is especially horrid. But the rose is good though!
@ ice: I'm really quite a noob at this whole html thingy. hahaha will try to find a solution... :P until then, bear it with first!
ReplyDeletehaa, always a fave - black palm island salt! but yeaaaaa, PH - unrivaled and nobody comes close even. I'm totally with you regarding Laduree. PH, anytime!
