Fat Boys The Burger Bar @ Katong

fatboys

When Fat Boys first opened at Upper Thomson, I was tempted but put off by the distance...and since it has inched closer to home I have no reason not to visit. Sports bar concept with two large screens for live screening of matches for the hardcores. The bar even stocks up on paraphernalia like soccer jerseys and shorts for the fans. For live models, their waiters and waitresses are clad in their in house jerseys.

Counter made for peeping over.

tables

Benches somehow fits the burger bar to a T, Fat Boys ain't the only one with this concept.

fat boys yo

Such an angry fat boy.

sauces

Every table comes equipped with the necessary.

malt shake

Macadamia Nut Malt Milkshake ($7)

As much as a pint of hoegaarden would have been ideal, I headed for their recommended malt milkshakes. Two huge scoops of icecream topped with fresh milk and a dash of horlicks and blended, this frothy nutty one was mega delightful. Would have been heaven on earth had it been a couple of degrees colder.

fat basterd

Fat Basterd ($16.80)
Double beef chuck patties, extra thick bacon,  cheddar cheese, a fried egg and homemade Fatboy's sauce on sesame bun

I naughtily tweeted "I want a fat basterd to please me tonight". Doubles usually promise greater satisfaction and surely, happiness. For starters, I did not fancy their homemade barbecue sauce much so that pretty much marred the initial experience. Beef chuck patties were loose and somewhat soft which fell short of expectations after a splendid display by Big Bad Wolf. Eating at burger bars consecutively does get you comparing, most unfortunately.

the elvis

The Elvis ($11)
Bacon stuffed Pork patty, grilled bananas and creamy peanut butter on a honey oat bun

Had to be the banana-peanut butter combination that got the vote to order. Honey oat bun won hands down for favourite bun - chewy one with lots of oat. Grilled bananas and peanut butter went pretty well with the pork patty. What I adored about it is, there was an even distribution of minced pork and chunks. Bacon, however, was missing.

caesar

Holy Caeser ($12)
Grilled seasoned chicken, extra thick bacon, on a bed of romaine lettuce, sprinkles of Parmesan and topped with homemade Ceasar dressing on a sesame bun

Any salad rendition would have been more gratifying. Cannot pinpoint what disappointed.

Fat Boys joins one of the several burger joints that fail to leave much of an impression. Strangely I have more things to rave about the milkshake than burgers.
