It was christmas and I was keen on a fun christmas day brunch - Catalunya came to mind with an exciting "Brunch with a Passion" concept - comes with a bingo game, a spread of spanish delights and an afternoon of fun.
It felt like a semi-buffet instead of the publicized full buffet. Here's the breakdown of how $98++ totalled,
Amuse Bouche
Toasted and lathered with tomato paste.
Free flow of antipastis, bread, eggs and bikinis
A table of food, literally with the spread of appetizers available. Whilst refills were tardy, hot favourites were clearcut -
Crabmeat salad
Real chunky crabmeat used, I made a nosedive for them - so delicious with the salad dressing and salad leaves.
Potatoes and eggs
Served on a bed of roasted potatoes, this came with either fried or scrambled eggs with ham, mushrooms and chorizo. Appetizing but one can only eat that many eggs and potatoes.
Truffle Bikinis
These crispy and cheesy aromatic truffle bikinis are also available on the ala carte menu, after three portions, I called it a day!
A different kind of breakfast
A martini glass of potato mousse, poached egg and onions. Worth a try but probably not seconds.
Meat pies
Both meat stuffings were on the sweet side.
Orange Juice
Godsent tangy orange juice that helped whet the appetite.
The forgettable were many
And since they were forgettable, naming would be unnecessary.
One portion of seafood paella, catch of the day and suckling pig
Plenty of theatrics for the arrival of the main courses, including the smashing of plates and an entourage of dancing waiters.
Seafood paella
Grains are coated evenly with the delicious seafood broth and a shade of golden yellow so tantalizing, the shellfish, scallops and prawns were but second fiddle. Oral pleasure at its finest, only to be met with that miserly portion for two.
Catch of the day
Fanciful unveiling of the fish - unearthing the whole fish beneath a bed of salt. Skillfully deboned and served, fresh and baked just right.
Suckling Pig
So they danced and smashed plates and it was absolutely theatrical but the suckling pig barely met expectations. Gamey, lacking in flavour and not worth the hundreds they are charging for the full carcass.
Limited servings of dessert
Another performance heralding the arrival of the desserts, I watched with bated breath as the kiasu diners started to make a beeline for the sweets.
Pretty to look at that ended up disappointing - limp churros, chocolate snowmen with lemon curd filling and the stiffest logcake slice ever.
Thankfully brunch ended promptly, I did not win my bingo for another brunch there. Once is perhaps more than enough.
