Shinkei is probably the latest to join in the Japanese Buffet stables and so being the ever hungry and greedy we headed down. Drawn by the thick cuts of sashimi and raving reviews, I actually packed an appetite for this buffet.
Appetizers of tuna get served - nothing special, straight out of the can.
Looking like crackers used to toss in yusheng and wasabi peas, anything crunchy really works.
Freeflow iced tea included in the price, and the best part is I did not go for any refills!
Jellyfish starters, so ordinary.
Pre-mix miso soup.
Sashimi Moriawase
This is usually a gauge of the restaurant's quality of food and sadly, it failed. It was not terrible but definitely not fresh.
The only decent one - torched salmon.
KEI Sushi Set
There is a selection of handpressed sushi and also sushi sets for the confused. Once again a lack of a better word - unimpressive.
Salmon Gravlax Temaki
Also known as the spiced salmon handroll, I was already disappointed when it arrived. Just a handroll with a sliver of spiced salmon without any relish. As boring as that sounded, it tasted as boring too.
Eel Sushi
Crunchy sushi, this was surprisingly the most decent of the sushi attempted.
This has to be a first time for me, asparagus beef skewers so skinny.
None too special either.
A reasonably charred and tasty chicken skewer.
Ginger pork.
Limp shisamo.
Niniku Yaki Meshi
Garlic fried rice
If all things fail, there's always garlic fried rice to comfort.
Furaida Poteto
Japanese style potato
Horror of horrors or not, it was just french fries with a fancy name.
There were other items attempted that were too ordinary. A very mediocre buffet that does not warrant the prices they are charging - not for a return. However, the service is possibly the best to date amongst the irodori, ikoi and the rest of the Japanese buffet restaurants. For a fact, my orders do not get forgotten.
