Pluck @ Ann Siang Hill

pluck

Pluck is the latest to open on the hill already studded with watering holes and dining gems, but there is always room for more competition. And as I write, the menu has already undergone yet another makeover - they say to keep things refreshing and diners to keep coming back. Someone I know has already been there for a couple of lunches and a dinner and has made bookings for future meals.

If you think that this bears any semblance to the outlet at Haji Lane, they are completely different and unrelated.

Spearheaded by the guys from Gem Bar, Zui Hong Lou and Manor Bar, they have a decent cocktail list to complement Chef Brandon Teo's tapas focused menu.

Sitting behind the bar counter gives me full view of the kitchen.

Jars of heaven.

Ready to be plucked.

scallops

Sear ed Scallops, Roasted Apples and Hazelnuts ($18)
Pan Seared Scallops, Roasted Granny Smith Apples, Hazelnut Crumble, Bacon Chips

The flavours of the scallop, apple and bacon chips complemented each other, it was a delicious start.

cauliflower

Curry Roasted Cauliflower, Almonds and Grapes ($14)
Curry Butter Poached Cauliflower, Roasted Almonds, Sun Dried Grapes

This fared better for me, being served piping hot for one and the various textures of cauliflower presented was interesting.

pork neck

Pork Neck, Roasted Chestnuts, Sweet Potato and Caramelized Pears ($22)
18 hour Braised Pork Neck, Honey Roasted Chestnuts, Caramelized Pears

This could pass off as a really tender pork chop though I would recommend the pork jowl for a good idea of how sin can be so delicious.

pork jowl

Pork Jowl, Mustard Pomme Puree ($27)
18 hour Braised Pork Double Chin, Mustard Pomme Puree, Sweet Young Ginger Glaze, Roasted Leeks

Not meant for the faint hearted, the double chin packs enough wobbly fats to bring meaning to delicious.

lamb rump

Roasted Rump of Lamb, Spiced Chickpeas ($28)
Roasted Rump of Lamb, Braised Lamb Shoulder, Tarragon Lamb Jus, Watercress and Pickled Shallot Salad

I strangely loved the chickpeas in this and then the lamb. The shoulder was found hidden in a pocket of pasta shell.

freshly piped

Having a dear friend in charge of dessert also means we get privileges like made to order madeleines.

mini madeleines

Tiny, buttery and definitely so easy to eat - I only wish I had more of these to chomp on!

banana x malt

Bananas, Malt, Honey ($10)
Fuelltine Buttered Bananas, Burnt Thyme Honey, Malt Icecream

A modern take on goreng pisang with breaded bananas and an incredibly creamy malt icecream.

plating

Chestnuts, Chocoalte and Lemongrass ($12)
Manjari Moelleux, Lemongrass Chantilly, Chestnut Icecream, Chestnut "Hot Chocolate"

chocolate

Pretty and tasted extraordinary with the kalamansi gel and apple mix - very tropical! Icecream was still as delectable, Pluck should really look into selling their icecreams in scoops, I would gladly buy by the pint!

They have got a team that is so media savvy, stalk them @pluck_sg or @sucreinspirations.

Lunch set menus are in the works and an ever changing menu - I hear more audacious dessert experiments await and I am piqued for that!
