Manhattan Bar @ Regent Singapore

manhattan

I had my eye on Manhattan Bar since the days where boards were up to announce something new was brewing.

menu

Beyond the high doors lies a secret society - welcome to the new Golden Age of fine drinking, they say. 1920's is where this bar is set in, a period in which was considered the "Prohibited Age" and it was truly significant to the history of spirits.

wall

The wall that smiles back at me.

love

Lovely embossed menu.

new york sours

New York Sour ($23)
St George Bourbon, ruby port, house-made lavender maple syrup, fresh lemon, plum bitters, egg white

The only other time I develop a liking for whiskey based cocktails. "New York" was perpetually on the top of my drink the whole time. I love how this was light at the start but grew on me with every sip. New York, oh new york, when can I visit thee?

making

From the Rickhouse
Single Cask Cocktail, Remember The Maine ($25)

remember the maine

Aged in-house in American oak under the watchful eye of Head Bartender Ricky Paiva. The classic cocktail pays tribute to the USS Maine which sank in the Havana harbor in 1898 when some of its ammunition inexplicably exploded.

popcorn

The night started off with a bowl of Paprika-spiced popcorn and by the end of the night we were 4 bowls into it.

lobster roll

Maine Lobster Roll ($26)
Crabmeat, avocado, remoulade sauce

Definitely a luxurious treat. This tasted more of crabmeat than lobster though and the meat texture ended up a tad too mushy.

whoopie pies

PBJ Whoopie Pie ($10)

Delicious mudpie pops sandwiching a layer of peanut butter.

in action

A chat with their friendly bartender saw us through all the buzz that goes behind concocting every drink - including multi tasking.

aged

We bumped into their Food and Beverage Director who gave us a tour of the rickhouse - a first in a hotel.

barrel

Exciting months lie ahead for Manhattan Bar with an adults only champagne brunch coming right up in the weeks ahead. They say, no kids allowed in the bar of revelry and indulgence.

Enthralled I was by Manhattan, a revisit is a must for more of the magical drinks of the 1920's.
