Since the rebranding, I have yet to set foot at
Marmalade In the City and queues have continued since with service
dipping to a new low – not that flailing my arms could get me any
attention, their service staff walk with their eyes glued to the floor
or plate and basically pay a deaf ear to all that’s happening.
Roast Chicken and Avocado Caesar ($23)
with soft-cooked egg
Egg was overcooked on a bed of tossed salad – a sheer disappointment.
Spicy Crabmeat ($25)
with pine nuts, tomatoes and chili
There
is a choice of spaghetti, linguine, fettuccine, penne or macaroni and
the usual order has been linguine. I found it underwhelming this time
round with a pasta slightly over cooked though the crabmeat toss was
still delicious.
Baked Snapper Ragout ($30)
in a foil packet with olives, capers, sundried tomato, zucchini and peppers
Fresh fish on a colourful bed of vegetables meant only for fish fans, I found it on the bland side.
Oriental Grilled Salmon ($28)
with soba
Here’s a salmon without any of the fishyness that I have encountered previously – a job well done for this dish.
Crispy Pork Belly ($32)
with mashed potatoes, coleslaw, french mustard and natural jus
Crispy
was clearly lacking here in this pork belly, the lumpy “natural jus”
did not do it any good but the coleslaw was decent. This is more braised
than crispy.
Sticky Date and Toffee Pudding ($14)
with vanilla ice cream
My first encounter with the sticky date and toffee pudding and still a fan of this light spongey one.
Limonata ($4.80)
tart lemon glazed cake
Another
of the personal favourites that I literally grew up with, melt in the
mouth frosting with a zesty light cupcake – memories taste like these.
