Summer Palace Revisited @ Regent

With the big day looming in a couple of days, we had a food tasting session done a couple of months back to nail down our finalised choices and of course, pig out. I'm not sure about all you BTBs out there but choosing my dishes was the happiest thing ever (especially so for a foodie) and for Regent, they do not have a fixed menu but a selection under each course which made choosing quite a headache, choices can be a boon sometimes.

Table setting!

Regent Deluxe Combination
Sliced Suckling Pig, Roasted Pork, Prawn Salad, Crispy Baby Squid, Chicken Money Bag

Suckling Pig it had to be when I first saw it on the menu list - crispy skin meets tender meat. I wish they had the full suckling pig option - that would be the greatest treat any wedding guest can receive.

So glad we picked this signature of Summer Palace! #neversaynotosiuyok

Loved the crispy baby squids - damn the pimples if they dare to surface but definitely worth the pimples.

One of the many plates - I only wish I have such luxury on the actual day! We made an adjustment to our choices, hopefully the guests will enjoy them that day too.

Summer Palace Eight Treasures Soup

Instead of shark's fin, Regent has a range of other broths for selection. We picked their signature soup - a combination of the season's delicacies - think abalone, scallops and pith amongst the other ingredients to form this flavourful broth.

Crispy Prawns with Wasabi Mayonnaise and Lettuce

Never can say no to wasabi prawns, I wish they added more punch to it but these were too good to stop at just one.

Braised Sliced Conch and Broccoli in Abalone Sauce

Broccoli and conch, none too surprising with this fry up.

Roasted Crispy Chicken with Bi Feng Tang Style

Sold on poulty with an incredibly crisp skin, super duper yummy meat rubbed with seasalt and props to the chef for the curry leaves and almond flakes that made this extra delicious. Best crispy chicken eaten. Mental note to at least have a piece that night!

Aim for the wings - that's where the seasoning is the richest.

Baked Cod Fish with Teriyaki and Honey Sauce

While the in laws and parents would have wanted a full steamed fish, we opted for cod instead. Thick fillets that saves the server the effort to even try to massacre.

A portion each - loved the bouncy flesh and yes I get to eat my fish deboned and in tact. Hooray.

Deep Fried Spare Ribs in Coffee Sauce and Crispy Chinese Buns

Coffee pork ribs with crispy buns for an interesting interpretation of a fusion dish.

Fried Rice with Crabmeat and Chinese Black Olives

We were all taken aback with the mountain of rice dished up. A pile so high, we were wondering if the quality and quantity actually matched. I ordered this before and was blown away. Fastforward some years, I was equally blown away with the execution of this dish.

Wok hei, flavour and fragrance were all nailed in one plate. Best of all, oily is hardly in the same sentence as this dish.

Caramel Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Gelato

A sweet finish - I suppose this came straight from either Dolcetto or Basilico. Definitely wins red bean soup with glutinous rice balls or even mango sago.

And there we finished our expectedly good food tasting, let's just hope they keep up with the excellent food on the actual day!
