Dolcetto by Basilico @ Regent Hotel

Dolcetto previously known as Something-to-go is the takeaway arm of their famous Basilico restaurant. Many a time I have popped by for a visual tease of their bakes and sweets so finally I paid them a special visit just to grab a bite - so much for resistance sometimes and the effort I take just for food. The tea lounge high tea was so tempting as well, if only I had the time!

jars

Jars of preserves for a good afternoon tea!

bread

Donut ($4.50)

This twisted sugary treat caught my eye in the row of fresh bakes and how I wish I could just order one of each to taste. The squid ink loaf was very welcoming too - ah well, next time! Dusted with cinnamon sugar, this twisted donut had a lovely density and pockets of air to make this donut, one of the best from a hotel bakery.

macarons

How can a visit be complete without trying their macarons.

innards

Lavender ($2.25)

Loved the chewy lavender infused macaron and buttercream filling - bliss is, having my macaron and eating it without guilt.

Squid Ink and Salmon ($2.25)

I wasn't quite prepared for a savoury macaron, mentally. But there's always the monumental first. Sweet sugar shells with an equally sweet filling but a sliver of smoked salmon was shoved in to balance the sweetness. A dash of oddity in this though its complexity got me sitting up and noticing it - maybe a ham cheese macaron would have been more straightforward.

A lovely random visit one weekend afternoon, I always wish for more of such sessions - perhaps another whimsical day for more of their treats!
