Szechuan Court has been aggressive with the
promotions along side their FeedAtRaffles Promotions. With their 50%
discount, it is too tempting an offer to give up. Strangely, the
restaurant was hardly crowded with such a good offer. Service
hit a raw nerve when we entered. As much as it was expressed out of
concern (offering a shawl as the temperatures were cold), the waitress
had on more than one occasion batted her eyelid and rolled her eyes at
us – for rejecting the shawl and ordering portions
that are in her opinion “not enough” for the group of 6.
I usually cannot resist the table appetizers.
Sour plum lime juice to whet the appetite. Chinese restaurants seem to adopt this these days.
Beijing Duck ($88)
The first course was served with egg crepe
wrappers, a dollop of sticky sweet sauce and a slice of crispy duck
skin. At least it kept us munching instead of picking at the nitty
gritties of how bad it is which I realise was saved for the
second course.
I requested for it chopped up (bones included) and the
chef incredulously reheated them unleashing a blanket of gameyness. Epic
fail here.
Pork Garlic ($22)
Chilled pork slices with a well executed garlic
condiment. Loved it that the garlic did not leave me with garlicky
breath at least and served chilled!
Sliced Pork ($26)
Second attempt at this, still as tasty but the temperature of food served tend to be just lukewarm.
HK Kai Lan ($33)
Greens served lukewarm, these were still delicious with the right crunch.
Scallop Eefu Noodles ($48)
The star of the meal and possibly the only dish
done so right. Springy oodles of eefu noodles (I’m only a fan when I
meet the right chef). Scallops, crabmeat and chives made this vavavroom
kind of delicious.
XO Prawn Asparagus ($40)
I always overlook how artificially crunchy their
prawns are regardless of condiments. The XO sauce and asparagus made up
for the shortfall though.
On the house for the disappointing peking duck.
Cherry Sherbet ($10)
Too measly a portion for 10 buckeroos. They have
done away with the chilli chocolate icecream which is in my opinion more
ingenious.
