Breakfast @ The Ardennes Hotel

the ardennes

The Ardennes is a relatively new boutique hotel, having opened its doors in November 2011. Reviews for this are mixed and truly, I just wanted to check out their supposed suites.
This double storey shophouse has a total of 12 rooms, maximum and it seems like a one-man show somewhat. The same guy who mans the receptionist appeared in the Burgundy CafĂ© as a server and manager…service level is obviously hugely lacking. For sure the expectations of a boutique hotel has to be lowered but some warmth and personal touch would have been nice. The one hour extension of check out time was possibly the only nice gesture from the management – at least we did not have to brave the rains and thunderstorms!

The lift itself was one that elicited laughter; enter and shut the door, hold onto the button for the floor to access (else the lift stops prematurely!) and then alight at the desired floor. The whole wayang took me longer in the lift than to take the stairs and definitely reminded me of the old school hongkong apartment lifts that need the gates to be dragged closed. For that bit of history, it was fun taking the lift!

lights

Cosy lights.

pool

Outdoor pool with a catch. Those dining at Burgundy Cafe can steal a peek at the swimwear and everything else...quite nearly.

flora ii

Flora II, a supposed Executive Suite.

artwork

Orchid prints as part of the flora theme.

sofa

Cushy!

bed

We stayed at Flora II and it was considered a suite and one without windows – not that we were particularly anal about it! Relatively small infact for a suite and I wonder how much smaller do their deluxe rooms get.

toilet

The major attraction is the see through bath room which is truly for the exhibitionists. Doing the privates in public view takes some kind of guts – yet I suppose this is somewhat for the kinky.

 towels

All in a basket.

drinks

Complimentary Yeo’s drinks in the mini fridge for consumption – comfort drinks I say!

ceiling

See what I mean by free show?

empty

Breakfast was included as part of deal – no choice given, I take what is served.

juice x coffee

Juices or coffee or tea. Straight off the juice pack...I found it somewhat bitter.

breakfast

Egg omelette, potato wedges, sausage, bacon and toast

Adequate breakfast but on the oily side.

The Ardennes is more of a budget boutique than one with a characteristic flair. Great location to suss out the vibrant night life but that is just about it.
