Maison Ikkoku @ Kandahar Street

maison ikkoku

This café is right next to Good and Rich Cake Shop and is quite the modern day all-in-one café – coffee joint, boutique and watering hole. The makings of a good coffee joint is the crazy fragrance that greets me when I enter. Maison Ikkoku’s has a side bar of different equipment for coffee making and that pleased the coffee drinker tons. One gets to pick the coffee beans and method – liking the customization!

liquid gold

Yellows and greens with a dash of orange paints a beautiful breakfast picture. Loved the muffins albeit pint-sized – just like Mcdonald’s with the right density, poached eggs were a tad overcooked but still runny and lovely parma ham. I thought the sautéed asparagus could have been done slightly better – old at the edges but nonetheless delicious. The hollandaise was quite inconsistent across both our dishes. Tasted somewhat watered down for mine but abso spot on with the eggs Florentine. Appears that the cook possibly underestimated the amount of sauce and had to throw in another quart of water for both dishes.

airpressz

Aeropressz ($5)

This unique brewing method performs through totally immersing the coffee grounds and gently pressuring the coffee beans in order to extract remarkable rich coffee flavor. It uses the gentle air pressure brewing system to make quality coffee with rich flavour and aroma. Due to the shortness of the brewing process, the coffee has reduced acidity without the bitter aftertaste.

True enough fragrant and not so acidic.

Brunch at Maison’s is delightful. Infact the décor is quite a joy to observe – clever usage of unhinged doors as table tops and quirky corners of showcases. Double love! One comfortable place for good coffee and breakfast items…weekends are major loves this way. Their cake menu tempts so much – Taro Cheese, Pumpkin Cheese and Carrot cake are already hollering! Returns are definitely on the cards.
