Icecream War @ Tanjong Katong Road

From Thomson to Siglap and even Tanjong Katong, icecream war has erupted. Rather, the appetite for these icy treats has expanded tremendously over the years - demand to outstrip supply hence the mushrooming of such shops. I took a walk down Tanjong Katong to finally sink my teeth into the shops creating ice-waves.

Little Ice Cream Kafe up against Icecream Gallery at Tanjong Katong – stiff competition I say, being mere doors away from each other. Designed like a café with mismatched walls and corners – I found comfort in one with cosy striped wall paper, dim lights and a super comfy sofa chair. While the rest of the café is not complementary in terms of shades or furniture, it’s this whole haphazardness that makes it unique.

Their icecreams are coloured a hue too bright – neon pink strawberry cheesecake? I found that hard to stomach.

peanut butterworth

Kaya Toast was a tad too heavy on kaya, as much as the allegiance is sworn to Icecream Chefs. Headed for Peanut Butterworth ($3.50) instead. Creamy and rich but the sweetness hit an all time high towards the end – leaving a mild unpleasantness to this spike in sugar rush.

Icecream Gallery

Icecream Gallery is the next icecream parlour within walking distance from LICK. It closes slightly earlier than the latter but boosts a steadier stream of visitors too.

seasalt

Caramel Seasalt and Roasted Almond ($4, additional 50 cents for special flavour)

I liked this for the roasted almonds. Still on the sweet side as opposed to the desired salty based icecream that Cedele excels in.

chocolate chip

Chocolate Chip with Chocolate ($3.50)

Not death by chocolate but decent enough for the chocoaddict.

I do prefer the icecream texture of IG’s as opposed to LICK though in all fairness I should have tasted the same flavours across board.
