I chanced upon Momiji at Paradis Center once and before the doors swung open, queues had already formed. Until the group decided to head to City Square for lunch did I realise it was the same restaurant. Under Suki Group, this outlet is much bigger than their previous location.
Concept is almost like Kushinbo without the annoying hourly specials, there are various counters of food for one to pick from.
Cold food section
Salmon sashimi, ebi, ika, tuna, mussels, prawns
Was a pleasant surprise to find raw prawns and they were pretty fresh!
Appetizers of cha soba, udon, unagi and shellfish which I barely touched.
Sushi selection was mind boggling, the spread that would get you hoping to try one of each largely because of the colours of the ingredients. Nothing too extraordinary sushi but these filled us up quite considerably.
Breaded fish, fried daikon chips and shisamo were actually quite delish but pity these were not served piping hot.
Gyoza that was somewhat dry.
Hot food section
Braised chicken wings which was quite a popular hit amongst the company - perfect with beer!
Chicken skewers
Something about cold chicken skewers that does not go down too well me, could be the coagulated sauce.
Fried rice
Ordinary.
Beef Udon
No recollection, unfortunately.
Cooked upon order
The system is pretty much like Kushinbo in this aspect - place your clips labelled with your table number in the stations that interest you.
Teppanyaki - beef, pork, fish, prawns, squid, scallops, vegetables
This was a tad tough despite not being cooked well done.
Pork that also worked the jaws too much.
Did not try but the companion seemed to enjoy it.
Grilled shisamo's always a welcome tasty treat.
Fresh prawns!
Tempura - croquette, breaded prawns
The crust was delish!
Mixed Vegetables
Nothing extraordinary
Paper Steamboat
A number of options were available but we all decided to go meatless with this vegetarian paper steamboat. Mildly flavoured broth with a generous portion of vegetables to go with it.
Yakitori - bacon wrapped asparagus and tomatoes
I've not tasted a bad yakitori especially with a combination like bacon and asparagus - this did not disappoint either.
Cheese oysters
These aphrodisiacs were irresistible, especially with a layer of melted cheese. Doubles of these slurpworthy stuff.
Hotplate mushrooms
Dessert
The ever passe chocolate fondue was present. So was a selection of icecream so artificially coloured, I barely touched. Their spread of miniature bites appealed to me though.
Daifuku - black sesame, chocolate, red bean, dango
Boy, I missed them daifukus! Japan made me such a big addict. Soft mochi skin with delish stuffings.
Jellies and puddings - grape, lychee, mango
Two portions of grape jelly, almost like konnyaku with a spring. Yummy!
Cakes - Blackforest, chocolate mousse, swiss rolls, cheesecake, eclair, creampuff, red bean cake
I usually shun such morsel dessert portions as they have a tendency to be dry from the exposure. Loved the eclairs best - light pastry meets chilled cream. Simple happiness. Yet the rest of the dessert platter conformed to the norms of quality over quantity.
A rather decent selection of drinks were also available - orange, grape and soda....and here comes latte or cappucino post-lunch! Impressive, I say.
Value for money Japanese buffet though I am not planning a revisit so soon. It's one of those places whose variety and price matches, great for gatherings and pigging out sessions that does not put the pocket on strike.
Lunch - $18.80++
