I've heard and read too many scathing reviews of Nando's Singapore that I took the meek way out, head over the causeway for a taste of the delicious (of course it wasn't JUST for Nando's!). Fairly packed even way past the lunch hour, we made our way into Nando's and was so close to finding my own table. Service is hugely lacking throughout from getting the wrong drink to plates to getting the bill...they need to look into their training processes!
Open concept kitchen that got me all tempted over their kebabs after seeing them being rolled out plate after plate!

A chicky world of Nando's.

No water served, buy a bottle if need be.

Sparkling Apple (RM 5.90)
First coke was served and taken away and then replaced with the Sparkling Apple. Not a mutter of apologies at all. Next, it's supposed to be a special mix by Nando's...I say..what special mix? Fizzy apple juice at best.

Peri-peri sauce that comes in three flavours; garlic, hot and spicy. Spicy came across as being hot for the sake of it, the same way Sunset Grill wings are after a certain level. I was in no hurry to drench my plate with the sauces which does not prove very complementary.
1/4 chicken with 2 side lines (RM14.25)
Ok, this is no Kenny Rogers. Nando's chicken is a whole lot more meatier and firmer to bite. Loved it.
Nando's chips and potato salad as sides, it was one of those hearty meals that I had which left me belly satisfied.
Does not hurt prices are half of what we find here...loves it!

Bring on the peri peri!

Empty at first.

And back in sunny island, I gave Nando's the chance to prove their detractors wrong. Still as packed as the initial reports say but the snaking queues have been done away with. Walk in snugly past 7pm on a Friday night and a table can still be given almost promptly. A chorused welcome greeted me as I entered and shown to my seat.

Not enough napkins to douse the fire.

1/4 chicken with 2 side lines (SGD 14.90)
In all fairness, headed for the exact same dish right down to the sides. Found the meat too soft and flavouring on the sour side - requested for hot peri peri sauce. Sides were still as hearty.

Chicky mood.

Made an attempt on potatoes and lime leaves skewers which were acquired. Ordinary grilled baby potatoes meets sharp tasting lime leaves - not my kind of sides.

Caramel Cheesecake (SGD 7.90)
It was not until dessert was served that it dawned on me how pricey this cake was! Close to Hilton's cheesecake price though larger in portions. Drenched in caramel I'd define this - thick caramel sauce beneath the cheesecake and further drizzled with caramel. Thankfully with all the caramel going on, was not cloyingly sweet. The cheesecake was on the rich side though with a delish graham cracker base.
Service staff though friendly had problems understanding us. Language barrier perhaps but overall a pleasant experience.
Just like Secret Recipe, Nando's is more worth the while consumed across the Causeway, I could live with that inconvenience and tie in a short getaway!
